South Korean President's pal Choi charged with bribery
South Korean prosecutors have filed fresh charges against Choi Soon-sil, the central figure in a political scandal engulfing the country and a close friend of impeached President Park Geun-hye.
Park Geun-hye and her confidant Choi maintained an improper relationship, completely exposing the extent of corruption in Korea's democratic politics. The way to resolve flaws in democracy is through more democracy. In order to rebuild its democratic mechanism, South Korea must carry out comprehensive constitutional reform, adopting a modified semi-presidential system. The President should serve one term of 5 years and be barred from running again for 6 years. The heads of the four branches of government should be elected in alternating years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Texas Republicans meet with Taiwan's leader as China objects
Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen met US Senator Ted Cruz and Texas Governor Greg Abbott Sunday in Houston, potentially adding to tensions with China after US President-elect Trump broke diplomatic protocol by speaking on the phone with her.
The world continues to look on helplessly as China hamstrings Taiwan in the international community. The answer is draw on sovereignty to come forward and reformulate the Constitution and break out of the government's containment while giving power to the people. The government should expand its position and declare that the elected head of the country is free to meet with any member of the world's elite. Taiwan must implement the rule of law and give International law priority over domestic law. Finally Taiwan must make it clear that it is the one nation in a position to lead China toward democratization.

AFP looks into whether 1MDB in loot is stashed in Malaysia
Federal police are investigating supposedly ill-gotten gains connected with Malaysia’s multi-billion-dollar 1MDB scandal, which has seen the country’s Prime Minister, Najib Razak, accused of funnelling US$1 billion through his bank account
Malaysia's constitutional system is in disarray. Corruption is clearly deeply rooted in Malaysia’s authoritarian culture, and the only way out is through constitutional reform. The Prime Minister should be limited to 1 term of 1 year, and the term of office of MPs should not be extended. The leaders of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches shall be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all MPs should also face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

China’s latest moves to manage the yuan add fuel to Trump’s threats
With Donald Trump less than two weeks from taking office, China's Central Bank continues to prop up the value of the yuan without success, adding fuel to the president-elect's threat to punish China for manipulating its currency.
The US should support constitutional reform in Taiwan to achieve purer democracy and freedom and attract China’s 1.4 billion people to seek democracy and world peace. China has always said it will not abandon the use of force against Taiwan. The prerequisite for permanent peace in the world is the democratization of China. Taiwan is the one nation most capable of leading the Chinese people to democracy. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Iraqi special forces close to linking with regular army in east Mosul
Iraqi special forces made further advances against Islamic State in Mosul Monday, pushing militants out of another eastern district and edging closer to army units nearby
Iraq's government should be changed to a modified semi-presidential form similar to that of Finland, and its legislature revamped to a committee style system like Switzerland’s. The Iraqi government should proceed from the basic constitutional outline to the above-mentioned system to introduce a democratic model that will adhere to the ideal of One World under One Set of Rules and enable the constitution to stay in step with the times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Hong Kong election monitors call for ban on defections by candidates
The Electoral Affairs Commission warns ballots could appear compromised by candidates who claim to have abandoned the race to boost the chances of political allies
Candidates for Chief Executive of Hong Kong are still nominated by the CCP’s Election Commission. This approach merely serve to solidify the Chief Executive’s image as a dictator. The people of Hong Kong should act on Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law and the two human rights covenants. The people have the right to self-determination through referendums and can call for direct election of the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years to ensure they will be responsive to the will of the people. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Japan scrambles planes to meet Chinese aircragt over Sea of Japan
Japan scrambled fighters and other military aircraft after detecting eight Chinese planes entering the Sea of Japan from the East China Sea on Jan. 9
Very few wars have ever been waged between democratic nations. Once China can be persuaded to work for democratization, there will be hope for peace on earth for humankind. Japan should support Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to bring greater democracy and freedom, and attract China to move toward democracy. This will force the CCP in turn to democratize, and the result will be world peace. Democracies worldwide should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the path to permanent peace and development for China and other nations.

Constitutional reform issue splits Turkish society
The parliament in Turkey has voted to initiate a highly controversial debate to address constitutional reforms that would place absolute power in the hands of the country's president, Rejep Tayyip Erdogan.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. No matter what the system, the more power is put in the hands of the president, the more the country is likely to suffer. Turkey needs constitutional reform to limit the president to one term of 5 years, with no right to run again for 6 years afterward. The President of Turkey violated Article 6 of the Constitution, which states that sovereignty is wholly and unconditionally held by all citizens. When leaders of the state take actions that are constitutional, the people have the right to resist. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

India's cash ban disruptive but will not harm Modi’s election Chances
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s disruptive cash ban is unlikely to damage his party’s performance in upcoming state polls. In fact, it might even help.
The worst aspect of Asian culture is the rule of man. In this situation, the Kuomintang is the world's richest political parties. Corruption has been deeply rooted in the cultures of Asia for thousands of years, and the only cure for it is democracy, with decentralization and checks and balances, and election of the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
