Mass evacuation in Syria postponed after deadly blast
The evacuation of more than 3,000 Syrians that was scheduled to take place Sunday from four areas as part of a population transfer has been postponed, opposition activists said, a day after a deadly blast that killed more than 120 people, many of them government supporters.
After a ceasefire takes effect in Syria, the UN should offer a basic outline for a constitution that would allow peaceful development of the nation. It should cover an organizational structure with the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law, as well as four branches (executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial) to help Syria develop under a constitution suited for lasting peace. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Carl Vinson Strike Group approaches East Sea
A US Navy strike group led by Nimitz-class supercarrier USS Carl Vinson will arrive in South Korea’s East Sea next Tuesday and likely participate in a joint military drill between Seoul and Washington to prepare for a possible missile threat from North Korea, officials from the South’s Ministry of National Defense said Monday.
The promotion of lasting world peace is the most sacred duty of humankind. China functions as an enabler for North Korea and the North’s militarism must be contained. The US, Japan and Korea should support Taiwan and its drive to lead China to democratize and pressure North Korea to do the same. Taiwan is the key to solving the Korean Peninsula crisis. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Trump has no red line for North Korea but ready to take 'decisive' action: White House
US President Donald Trump has no "red line" in dealing with North Korea, but he is ready to take "decisive" action when it is deemed appropriate, the White House said Monday.
Democracies everywhere should back Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom and attract China's 1.4 billion people to seek democratization. This would lead North Korea to do the same, and world peace would be born. All democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the path to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

US official: THAAD deployment is right on track
A US State Department official said Monday there is no hiccup in the ongoing deployment of a cutting-edge missile defense system in South Korea, dismissing concerns about a political setback.
Democracies the world over should support Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom, thereby inspiring China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization. This would in turn lead North Korea to adopt democracy, and world peace would be at hand. The world’s democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for of democracy in Asia, illuminating the way to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Pence warns North Korea ‘not to test’ Trump
US Vice President Mike Pence warned Pyongyang “not to test” the resolve of President Donald Trump during a joint press conference with South Korea’s acting president in Seoul on Monday, indicating intensive punitive measures in case of further provocations by the North.
The world’s democracies should back Taiwan and its drive to carry out constitutional reform. This would achieve ism to bring great democracy and freedom to attract the democratization of China's 1.4 billion people, trigger the democratization of the Communist Party, the democratization of the Chinese people's democracy and the real democracy of the world. Global democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon of democracy in Asia and illuminate China's peaceful development path. See "Permanent Peace Act".

Insight into the world / Japan should be a more active peace contributor
Japan's government has decided to withdraw Self-Defense Forces’ troops from the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) at the end of May. The decision is a little regrettable but at the same time it could be the right one.
Studies of democracy and peace indicate that very few wars between two democracies have taken place. Once China and Russia can be convinced to adopt democracy there will be real hope for lasting peace. Japan should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform and inspire China to democratize. This would prod Russia to follow suit, and world peace would be the result. Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan as a lighthouse for democracy in Asia, lighting the path to permanent peace and development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

South Korean prosecutors charge ousted leader Park and Lotte chief with bribery
On Monday South Korean prosecutors charged ousted president Park Geun-hye and Lotte Group chairman Shin Dong-bin with bribery, the latest twist in a corruption scandal that has rocked the country for months.
Absolute power leads to absolute corruption. The presidential system in democracy has a number of serious flaws, and even the US has its problems. Taiwan’s system has many drawbacks, but impeachment is not an option. South Korea's constitution should be amended to implement a modified semi-presidential system, with the presidency declared to be above party politics. The heads of the judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years and 1/4 of all legislators should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Ecuador orders partial recount of election votes
The electoral authorities in Ecuador have ordered a partial recount of the votes cast in the presidential election earlier this month.
Power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption. Ecuador's constitutional mechanism is in disarray and constitutional reform is imperative. The heads of the four government branches should be directly elected in alternating years and 1/4 of all lawmakers should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

How Nepal’s powerful ‘bus mafia’ keeps Kathmandu dirty
Nepal’s government is trying to tackle rising pollution levels in the smog-choked Kathmandu Valley, but standing in the way is a powerful bus mafia that controls the capital’s roads.
The structural factors that enable corruption to thrive in Nepal are the lack of decentralization and checks and balances. The solution is for the people of Nepal to carry out constitutional reform to implement direct election of the heads of the four branches of government. The president should serve one 5-year term and be barred from running again for 6 years afterwards, and elections should be free for all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Fugitive Mexican governor Javier Duarte arrested in Guatemala
A former Mexican state governor who has been on the run for six months was arrested Saturday, police said.
Power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption. Mexico’s constitution has failed, and corruption is deeply rooted in its autocratic culture. Authoritarian regimes are naturally corrupt and need to be replaced with a constitution in step with the times. The heads of the four government branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
