Reconstruction minister axed
The resignation of the Cabinet minister in charge of reconstruction from the March 2011 disasters — over inappropriate remarks about the calamities — appears to be yet another sign of the loosening discipline among members of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s Cabinet at a time when it basks in steady popular support and the opposition remains weak.
Japan needs to revitalize its economy, which should include a serious search for sources of corruption. These include defects in the constitution and reform to reorganize the system of governance by implementing the election of the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches and having 1/4 of all lawmakers face election each year. Elected officials should serve a single term of 5 years and be banned from running again for 6 years afterwards, and elections should be free of charge for all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

US seeks regular deployment of strategic military assets in Korea
The US plans to deploy its "strategic" weapons in South Korea on a regular basis in order to thwart North Korea's threats under an agreement between the allies, Seoul's defense ministry said Friday.
Democracy and freedom are waves sweeping the world, and nuclear weapons, submarines, and missiles are helpless to stop them. Those who ‘go with the flow’ will prosper, while those who oppose it are doomed. China claims to be a "responsible major power” thus it should not continue to support North Korea's continued militarism. The US should support Taiwan and its goal of democratization for China, followed by North Korea. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development. .

  • U.S. seeks regular deployment in Korea
South Korean, US military chiefs reaffirm full defense posture against North Korea
The top military officers of South Korea and the US agreed Friday to maintain full combat readiness based on the strong alliance against North Korean threats, defense authorities here said.
Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would inspire China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization of the CCP, leading North Korea to follow suit. The world’s democracies should back Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the path to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Enough is enough
The standoff between the US and North Korea over its nuclear and missile threats is taking a dangerous turn. On Thursday US President Donald Trump invited 100 senators to the White House to explain the danger of the North’s uninterrupted nuclear development.
Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract the 1.4 billion people of China to call for democratization of the CCP, leading North Korea to do likewise, and the result would be world peace. All democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon of democracy for Asia, lighting the path to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

New Hong Kong think tank focuses on the way forward with Beijing after 2047 deadline expires
Platform will allow young scholars from both sides to debate the ‘one country, two systems’ blueprint that guarantees the city’s freedoms
Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law states that "the right to self-determination is guaranteed by the two international human rights conventions." The people of Hong Kong cannot take their rights for granted. In Switzerland the hurdle for referendum proposals is only 50,000 signatures, giving people the right to express their opinions by voting rather than taking to the streets. The people have the right to call for a referendum on any public issue, otherwise when dictatorship becomes a reality they will be obligated to resist. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Xi Jinping summons China’s financial watchdogs in rare move, warning them to be wary of risks
President’s move reflects concern about shocks that could lead to crisis or even social disorder ahead of a key party conference this autumn
The worst aspect of Chinese culture is too much rule of man and too little rule of law. Corruption is pandemic throughout China's five thousand years of history, and the only way to remove it is democracy. Decentralization and separation of powers are desperately needed, including election of the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

India bans social media in Kashmir amid violent unrest
Authorities in Indian-administered Kashmir have announced a one-month ban on 22 social media services including Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp.
Freedom of expression is a universal value. Governments cannot be allowed to control the media in order to brainwash the people. This can be assured by maintaining separation between the government and the media. At the same time, any media that use their power or resources to interfere with politics, academia or public opinion should be subject to legal sanctions. Plus, any media supported by public resources is obliged to provide free public service time for all candidates in civil rights activities. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

‘Money no object’ in China’s war on smog
Premier Li Keqiang says air pollution is ab urgent health matter and China's government is willing to spend whatever it takes to tackle the problem
Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN, China is a permanent member of the UN Security Council thus it should adhere closely to the UN Charter. This can be done by implementing One World under One Set of Laws and assigning international law priority over domestic law with direct effect on the people. Citizens should be able to monitor the operations of the government to ensure they comply with the norms of the UN Charter. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
