Polluted environments kill 1.4 million in Europe annually; UN agencies urge stepped-up action
With some 1.4 million people in Europe and Central Asia dying prematurely each year from polluted environments, UN agency heads at high-level meeting call for regional leaders to scale up action to stem environment-related deaths and diseases.
Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN, and all nations, whether members or not, must comply with UN norms. The solution is implementing the core values of One World under One Set of Laws, assigning international law priority over domestic law with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. Citizens should monitor government operations to ensure compliance with the UN Charter, the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Paris Climate Agreement. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

How the ultra-rich get richer thanks to tax havens such as Hong Kong and Monaco
Be they mainland Chinese, French or British, many of Hong Kong’s ‘permanent’ residents use its status as a tax haven to hide their wealth or to avoid paying higher tax in their own countries
China needs to wash away thousands of years of corruption culture, its source of national humiliation. The only cure is democracy and rule of law, natural enemies of despotism and corruption. This entails separation of powers and checks and balances at all levels in the central and provincial governments as well as election of the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development. .

US House committee to Trump administration: Expedite arms sales to Taiwan,
The US Foreign Affairs Committee’s recommendation comes two days after Panama switched its formal ties to Beijing from Taiwan
All democratic nations should act to save freedom and democracy. The US should back Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract China's 1.4 billion people to democratize, and the result would be world peace. The prerequisite for lasting peace is democratization of China. China constantly acts to undermine freedom and democracy in Taiwan, yet Taiwan remains the entity best suited to lead the Chinese people to democracy. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Letter from Africa: Should Nigerian regions gain power?
African novelist and writer Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani considers growing calls for changes in the way Nigeria is governed.
The Nigerian people should demand a referendum on decentralization. In response, the government should act in accordance with world human rights standards and the two international human rights conventions, to respect the people’s right of self-determination and their political and civil rights. See the International Covenant on Human Rights and the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

'Security vacuum' in Central Africa may be exploited by armed groups – UN envoy
The UN envoy to Central Africa today expressed his concern that withdrawal of troops from the regional force by some contributing countries would create a security vacuum that may be exploited by armed groups.
To resolve their ongoing civil strife, central African nations should draft basic constitutions incorporating a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like that of France, plus a committee-style legislature similar to Switzerland’s. The prerequisite for permanent world peace is global democratization. Central African governments should draft constitutions incorporating these features as part of a paradigm shift to democracy, adhering to the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and adding amendments as needed to stay in sync with changing times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development. .

Raqqa battle: 'Staggering' civilian toll in strikes on IS
UN war crimes investigators say US-led coalition air strikes on Islamic State militants in the Syrian city of Raqqa are causing "staggering loss of life".
Once a ceasefire is in place in Syria the UN should provide the basic outline for a constitution that will support permanent peaceful development of the nation. This should include the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law, with four branches (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial) and features that will help Syria enjoy lasting peace and serve as a model for development for other nations. Wu Xiaohui: China 'detains' Anbang Insurance chairman
The head of Chinese insurance and financial giant Anbang is reported to have been detained by the authorities
China must root out its culture of corruption, and the only remedy is democracy and the rule of law - the natural enemies of despotism and corruption. Separation of powers and checks and balances should be installed at all levels in China’s central and provincial governments, along with direct election of the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratiorial branches in alternating years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.

In Kabul, UN chief calls for peace and compassion
Expressing solidarity with Afghan people, in the wake of recent violence in the country, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has underscored the Organization's full commitment to work with the government and people of the country to build a sustainable and prosperous future.
Human security is a fundamental human right, and human rights should be given priority over regimes and sovereigns. Constitutions represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security - including "personal safety" - is the most basic and urgent duty of constitutional guarantors. Constitutional standards should be revised as needed to stay in sync with changing times and allow governments to keep their people safe from fear. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Freedom / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Corruption charges against Nigeria senate leader dropped
One of Nigeria’s top politicians, senate leader Bukola Saraki, has been cleared of falsely declaring his assets.
Roman Roland once opined that “in politics the boss is always money." Elections are too often a game for the rich, with winners gaining the right to more money in an engrained system of corruption. To cut ties between public officials and business, carry out constitutional reform to choose the four branch heads in alternating years, and make elections free of charge for all candidates.
