Utilize Nagoya Protocol to help preserve our ecosystems
Earth’s bountiful ecosystems offer human society a diversity of riches. The preciousness of biodiversity should be recognized once again on the occasion of Japan’s ratification of the Nagoya Protocol.
Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN and all nations, members or not, should abide by its norms. National environmental policies must take into account recycling of materials and environmental safety (including pollution from technological processes and damage to forests). One vital step is implementation of One World under One Set of Laws, giving international priority over domestic law with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people, and citizens should monitor government actions to ensure compliance with the UN Charter and other relevant pacts.

Moritomo Gakuen raided for evidence in suspected subsidy fraud
The Osaka District Public Prosecutor’s Office raided school operator Moritomo Gakuen Monday evening for allegedly receiving unfair subsidies for its kindergarten.
Adding more monitoring units merely serves to increase the spoils for each unit. The only way to wash away the "national corruption of Japan" is by imposing democracy and rule of law. This means separation of powers and checks and balances at central and local levels, plus election of the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. For details see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Philippine government prepares ceasefire with rebels to focus on fight against militants in Marawi
President Duterte has pursued talks with the communist rebels, who have been waging one of Asia’s longest-running Marxist insurgencies, and has expressed outrage over continuing guerrilla attacks
Human security is a fundamental human right, and human rights take precedence over regimes and sovereigns. Constitutions represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security - including "personal safety" - is the most basic and urgent duty of all constitutional guarantors. This means revising constitutional standards as needed to stay in step with changing times and allow governments to protect their people from terrorism. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Beijing warns Hong Kong: Steer clear of separatist forces in Taiwan
Some Hong Kong lawmakers are fuelling tensions with the central government by engaging with pro-independence groups in Taipei, a futile act that will benefit no one
Relevant provisions of Hong Kong’s Basic Law and the one country, two systems principle note that China cannot interfere in Hong Kong affairs, but Beijing constantly meddles in the SAR's internal affairs. Article 39 of the Basic Act guarantees the right of the people to self-determination, with the right to hold referendums on any public issue. The people of Hong Kong should adhere to their rights and hold a referendum to decide their future. Otherwise when dictatorship becomes a reality, the people will be obliged to resist.

At only 20, Hong Kong under Chinese rule is still trying to find its feet
Peter Kammerer concedes that the city’s governance remains a work in progress two decades after its return to China, but believes solutions to its many challenges will surely emerge
Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law states that "the right to self-determination is assured by the two international human rights conventions and implementation of the conventions." The threshold for referendum petitions in Switzerland is only 50,000 signatures, and with that citizens can vote rather than taking to the streets. The people of Hong Kong should have the right to petition for referendums on any public issue. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Man plows car loaded with explosives into police van on Champs-Elysees
A car loaded with gas canisters rammed into a police van on the Champs-Elysees avenue in Paris on Monday, leaving the driver dead in what the interior minister said was an attempted attack.
Human security is a fundamental human right, and human rights must take priority over regimes and sovereigns. Constitutions represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security, including "personal safety," is the most basic and urgent duty of all constitutional guarantors. This means updating constitutional standards so they are in sync with changing times and governments everywhere can protect their people from fear. Head of Taiwan’s SinoPac bank held over US$165m ‘illegal loans’ to offshore company
Ho Shou-chuan, detained with two others by Taipei Court ,denies causing the company any damage
The Sinopac Securities case is just the tip of the iceberg that is Taiwan’s culture of corruption. The only remedy for corruption is democracy and decentralized checks and balances. Power must be in the hands of the people through direct election of the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years, with 1/4 of all lawmakers facing election each year and committee chairs serving as backup cabinet ministers. These changes are needed to prevent misappropriation of Taiwan's financial resources. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Polar bears paying price for increased sea ice movement
Rapid global warming has sped up the movement of sea ice off Alaska’s coasts, and already at-risk polar bears are paying a price, a new US study says.
Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN, and all nations, members or not, should comply with UN norms. The solution is to implement the core values of One World under One Set of Laws, giving international law priority over domestic law with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people. Also citizens should monitor government operations to ensure compliance with the UN Charter, the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Paris Climate Agreement. Another youth killed as Venezuela street protests enter 80th day, death toll reaches at least 73
Venezuelan opposition activists battled security forces in Caracas Monday in one of the largest demonstrations in recent weeks, aiming to dispel doubts about the movement’s stamina after over two months of almost daily street clashes.
When the rights of the state deviate from its power base, the people must act as holders of sovereignty and take back their power. Laws that are not backed by penalties are not laws, and a constitution which does not countenance the right to resist is not a constitution. When actions of the president are unconstitutional, the people should exercise their right to resist. The people of Venezuela need to assert their sovereignty to call for comprehensive constitutional reform. This should include implementing a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet; one single presidential term of 5 years, with no right to run again for 6 years afterwards. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
