A former member of China's Central Military Commission has committed suicide after authorities opened a corruption probe against him. Zhang Yang was being investigated over his ties to two corruption-tainted generals.
The only remedy for corruption in China is democracy and its tools of separation of powers and checks and balances. The heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years and 1/4 of all lawmakers should face election each year. In addition, committee chairs should be the pool for backup cabinet ministers. Such moves will end the endless cycle of corruption in government.
