The general election in the Netherlands, one of the three big elections in Europe this year, is over.
The only cure for the ills of democracy is more democracy. European countries fretted over prospects of a right-wing victory in this election, but the Dutch government wisely opted to let the people express their opinion at the ballot box and not in the streets, to the relief of many neighboring countries. The act of voting is one of the best educational features of democracy. Other specific changes should include election of the heads of government branches in alternating years and having 1/4 of all MPs face election each year.
