Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said Thursday he trusted China would not build anything on a disputed South China Sea shoal because he was given its “word of honor” and Beijing would not want to jeopardize a new friendship.
Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam and other countries should form a "military alliance" to counter the threat of China in the South China Sea. The provisions of the 2002 Declaration of the Parties to the South China Sea should be used to resolve territorial and jurisdictional disputes in a peaceful manner. Joint development and sharing of resources should be employed to maintain peace and foster development in line with the UN Charter’s aim of "one human family".
