Permanent Peace Partnership
Life for a migrant worker under Qatar’s kafala sponsorship system means living under your employer’s total control over every aspect of your existence – from opening a bank account to changing jobs, and even being allowed to leave the country.
Qatar’s form of modern slavery violates international labor conventions and the ILO basic principle of One World under One Set of laws and working to build a common destiny for humankind. Qatar should hold international law above domestic law with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people, and put the principles of international labor conventions into practice to assist Qatar raising human rights protection to higher national standards. Brazilians are used to scandal and allegations of corruption, but the latest headline-grabbing police investigation has the country entering new realms that are both stomach-turning and slightly surreal.
Corruption involving Brazil’s presidents never seems to end, proving the old adage that: "power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption." To put an end to corruption, the people should exercise their sovereign powers and call for comprehensive constitutional reform, implementing democratic rule of law along with separation of powers and checks and balances. In addition, elections should be free of charge for all candidates to end the symbiotic relation between politicians and the business world. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
A Dutch demagogue stirs up his followers in a campaign against immigrants. Appealing to the public’s fears and nativist passions, he declares the culture of the immigrants antithetical to Dutch values and denounces their religion, which “scandalizes Christians,” as a kind of infectious disease.
The increasingly strident anti-Muslim sentiment of the Dutch Liberal Party is aimed at prevent immigration from Muslim countries, which is viewed as a threat to their own socio-economic and national security. The solution is easy: implement One World under One Set of Laws and recognize the rule of law, giving international law priority over domestic law, with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. The New Zealand Parliament has given its Whanganui River a legal persona.
New Zealand's laws are more advanced than those of most other countries, and the New Zealand Parliament has given legal status to the Whanganui River. This means that it is legally recognized as having the same rights as human beings. Such moves are necessary to prevent Mother Earth from being damaged and seriously polluted before human activities and greed lead to our own extinction. The law of the earth should be implemented so the earth can continue to develop, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Alice Wu says a week before a no-surprise vote on the city's next chief executive, we should dial down our expectations of change.
The people of Hong Kong choose their Chief Executive from a slate produced by the CEC. This is nothing more than outright dictatorship. The people of Hong Kong should avail of Article 39 of the Basic Law, which states that the people have the right to call for referendums. To curb corruption, the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
Videos go viral on the internet showing youngsters vowing not to buy South Korean snacks and chanting in teacher-led rallies at schools
All democracies should support Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract China's 1.4 billion people to seek democratization of the CCP as well as North Korea, leading to an outbreak of world peace! The world’s democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the path to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
North Korea marked the final day of US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's Asia visit Sunday by claiming to have successfully tested a new type of rocket engine, underlining the country's defiance of recent calls for calm on the Korean Peninsula.
Immanuel Kant once said, "The pursuit of permanent peace is the highest goal of reason and a moral obligation." China claims to be a "responsible power", thus it should not act as an enabler for North Korea's militarism. The US, Japan and South Korea should support Taiwan's commitment to save democracy and lead China's democratization, followed by the same action from North Korea. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
The country's leader, whose brother was murdered by the Cosa Nostra, traveled on Sunday to an organized crime stronghold to honor hundreds of Italians slain by the country’s crime clans over the past decades.
Absolute power leads to absolute corruption. The only way to root out black gold politics is democracy, in the form of separation of powers and checks and balances. At the same time the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years as another way to hand power back to the people. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Catalonia's separatist government on Sunday again urged Spain's central government to let it hold a legal referendum on independence like the one Scotland staged in 2014 with London's approval.
Taiwan should study Catalonia’s experience with independence referendums and develop a paradigm shift. The people have the right to call for a referendum on any public issue, and any motion to prohibit a referendum connected to self-determination should be subject of the earliest referendum to determine whether the motion should be outlawed. Congress should first establish the right of creation for the Referendum Act and ask President Tsai to openly support the sovereignty of the people in staging comprehensive constitutional reform. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Brazil's President Michel Temer has sought to reassure foreign trade partners that the corruption scandal engulfing the country's meat industry does not mean its products are unsafe.
Brazil is the world's largest red meat exporting country, and now its top packaging meat company is accused of having sold rotten products for years. Brazil’s constitution is in tatters and needs to be drastically reformed. The heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should all be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. The President should serve a single 5-year term with no right to run for 6 years afterwards. In addition, elections should be free of charge to all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
