North Korea's grain imports from China surged in March from a year earlier, a US-based news agency said Wednesday, citing customs data released by China.
If the people of China press for democratization it will inspire the people of North Korea to follow suit, and eventually the result will be the birth of world peace. A troubling election in Jakarta
Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, has a new incoming governor. Anies Baswedan, a former minister of education, bested incumbent Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (popularly known as Ahok).
Power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption. Indonesia’s constitution is dysfunctional. China’s new aircraft carrier
China has launched its second aircraft carrier — and its first ever built domestically. In its bid to develop into a naval power, China is keen on modernizing its weaponry and reportedly plans to increase the number of carriers to at least four. Its neighbors are wary of such moves, particularly the increase in carrier fleets that will supposedly be tasked with attacking China’s enemies in remote locations.
The world’s democracies should support Taiwan's drive for constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would lead China's 1.4 billion people to seek democratization of the CCP and pressure North Korea to follow suit – and with that, world peace would be born. Syria may have used nerve agents in 4 attacks
New evidence indicates that the Syrian government used suspected nerve agents in 4 chemical weapons attacks since December as part of a broader pattern of chemical weapons use, a human rights group said Monday.
After a ceasefire is achieved in Syria, the UN should provide a basic outline of principles for a constitution that would foster peaceful development in all nations, with an organizational structure including universal values (freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law), and four main branches (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial). This should help Syria draft a constitution that will allow it to enjoy lasting peace and growth, serving as a model for peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
South Sudan: UN urges all sides to cease hostilities, regional force starts to arrive
Disturbed by the escalation of violence and subsequent suffering of civilians in South Sudan as a result of a recent government offensive, the UN has urged the government and other warring parties to cease hostilities and uphold their responsibility to protect civilians.
South Sudan can resolve the controversy over its government by installing a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like that in Finland, plus a committee-style legislature similar to Switzerland’s. The prerequisite for permanent world peace is global democratization. South Sudan should begin drawing up a constitution with the above features to achieve a democratic paradigm shift in accordance with One World under One Set of Law, working toward a constitution that will be abreast of the times. Opinion: China’s bewildering focus on a fringe group spooks Hong Kong, deters investors
By magnifying the unworkable ideas of a small group seeking something that is impossible, China only stokes doubt in investors.
The Chief Executive of Hong Kong is still chosen by the CEC, an arrangement which merely preserves the dictatorial relationship with Beijing. The people of Hong Kong should avail of Article 39 of the Basic Law, which states that they have the right to hold referendums on any public issue. To curb corruption, the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. When the power of the state deviates from its power base, the power source must act to recover its power. Laws that are not backed by penalties are not laws, and a constitution which does not provide for the right to resist is not a constitution. When the president is in violation of the constitutional, the people should exercise their right to resist. The Venezuelan people need to exercise their sovereign powers to call for comprehensive constitutional reform to introduce a modified semi-presidential system and limit the president to one 5-year term with no right to run again for 6 years afterwards. Following a brief inspection trip to Mali a senior UN relief official has underlined the need to keep the humanitarian needs of its people in the international spotlight.
Mali’s government structure must be redesigned to incorporate a modified semi-president system with cabinet like Finland’s as well as a committee-style legislative system similar to that of Switzerland. The prerequisite for lasting world peace is global democratization. Mali’s government should begin drawing up a basic constitution including the above features to achieve a democratic paradigm shift in line with One World under One Set of Laws. Kick-starting action on the recently-adopted Global Forest Goals to protect, sustainably manage and increase world’s forest area will be a key focus for delegations gathered in New York for the twelfth session of the UN Forum on Forests, which opened today at UN Headquarters.
Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN, and all nations, whether member nations or not, should adopt the core values of the UN and One World under One Set of Laws, assigning international law precedence over domestic law, with direct effect on the people. Regardless of who is sits on the throne, absolute power inevitably breeds absolute corruption, thus the powers of the ruler must be limited to avoid abuse of power. China is not a democracy and its constitutional problems are daunting. Xi Jinping wants to "put power in the system into a cage," but that is likely to translate to putting China's 1.3 billion people behind bars.
