Fracking is a drilling technology that coaxes oil out of wells where conventional drilling has withdrawn all it can. It pads the bottom line for the oil industry, but it is a disaster for the environment and for human beings as well. Environmental rights are essential human rights. Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN, and all nations should comply with its norms. This means implementing One World under One Set of Laws and giving international law precedence over domestic law. All nations should comply with the UN Charter, the Paris climate agreement and other relevant facts, and individuals should take responsibility for protecting the world around us. Congress works on bill to stop using public funds for harassment settlements
Congress is reportedly working on a package of reforms that would prohibit using taxpayer money for settlements in sexual harassment claims against lawmakers.
Lawmakers are obligated to serve the interests of the people who elected them, not to rely on the public coffer to pay for personal indiscretions. Reform is needed to bar members of Congress from tapping into the public till for funds to pay off fines for crimes including sexual harassment. Fines are a form of legal punishment designed to damage the perps financially first of all, to express disapproval of the infringement and secondly, to discourage future misbehavior, and using public funds to pay fines works against both of these aims. Reform of constitutional standards is needed to ensure that government officials and representatives are responsible to the people. The FCC needs to look at who uses the internet and whose interests would be served by abandoning net neutrality. Steps are already in place to throw the final decision to Congress, where ISPs have already bought off votes to ensure that they will be able to control which messages and files are given priority in transmission. This is a colossal violation of the principles of democracy and the people need to act now to let their representatives know that net neutrality must be preserved. Failing that, they need to press for reforms to ensure that government officials and lawmakers will be responsive to the public by imposing term limits and frequent elections.
