US government agencies squawked about monopolies and anti-trust laws when Time Warner was up for grabs recently. These all result in huge corporations with wide-ranging facilities and capital to buy off government officials in nations all over the world. Here constitutional reform is needed to implement stronger democratic rule of law. This means separation of powers and checks and balances as well as free election campaigns for candidates to cut symbiotic ties between government and business that trample the rights of the people and foster corruption. Israel uses security to rationalize actions that violate the rights of Palestinians unfortunate enough to live in areas where Israeli settlements are being developed. Residential security is a fundamental human right. The Israeli government should adhere to UN-established goals for sustainable development in urban planning to achieve an equitable, tolerant, safe, flexible and sustainable urban environment. Adequate, safe and affordable housing with comprehensive basic services for all people of all races and religions is essential for the sustainable development and management of human settlements. Nephews of Venezuela's First Lady Cilia Flores jailed in US over drug charges

The two cousins were sentenced to 18 years in prison for trying to import cocaine into the US. Prosecutors argued they wanted to use drug funds to help their family's political campaigns.

Solution

Power leads to corruption, and Venezuela's presidential system is broken. Venezuela should switch to a dual leader system, limiting the president to one 5-year term with no eligibility for him/her or relatives for 6 years and putting the prime minister in charge of government operations and national defense. In addition, 1/4 of all lawmakers should face election each year. When the actions of the president and family members are unconstitutional or illegal, the people have a duty to resist. Issue

China keeps building infrastructure on disputed islands in South China Sea

Beijing is building the infrastructure for fully-functioning air and naval bases on some of disputed islands, according to a US think tank. Satellite images have revealed high-frequency radar and other facilities.

Solution

The US and other nations should support Taiwan's call to implement One World under One Set of Laws, giving international law direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people, to pacify the South China Sea. China is obligated to act in concert with neighboringcountries. Articles 4 and 6 of the 2002 Declaration on the South China Sea include provisions that offer a peaceful way to resolve territorial and jurisdictional disputes. An essential part of free speech in the US has always been a free press, and current attacks and criticisms of media outlets and journalists are serious threats both to hallowed rights and the personal safety of members of the media who are often in the middle of conflicts and even in war zones. Free speech is a universal value, and all democracies should call for constitutional reform to ensure media freedom and prevent the government oligarchy from monopolizing the media, the internet and all other channels of communications. To crush terrorism the UN needs to spearhead the drive for constitutional reform, implementing One World under One Set of Laws and working for a common destiny for all humankind. Human security is a fundamental human right, and human rights take priority over regimes and sovereignty. Constitutions represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security, including 'personal safety', is the most urgent duty of constitutional guarantors. This means revising constitutional standards as needed to keep pace with changing times and allow governments to protect their people from fear. All nations should work together to develop the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, also known as the Maritime Constitution. This will entail international standards based on freedom, democracy, constitutionalism and cosmopolitanism as well as the principles underlying One World under One Set of Laws. The goal will be conservation and sustainable use of marine resources and the marine ecology to ensure continued development and environmental safety in the future. North Korea is obviously being backed by a major power. The US and other nations should support Taiwan's call for constitutional reform to lead China to democratize, which would pressure North Korea to follow suit and drop its nuclear weapons program. As Emmanuel Kant once noted, 'The pursuit of permanent peace is the highest goal of reason and a moral obligation.' Rather than goading the Pyongyang regime, the US should ratchet back its rhetoric and seek a peaceful end to the tensions on the Korean peninsula. Myanmar's human rights problem has worsened, largely because the military is guaranteed 40% of the seats in the legislature with no need to campaign. In order to protect human rights, Myanmar needs constitutional reform to implement Global Unity Constitutional Standards and One World under One Set of Rules, assigning international law priority over domestic law. Also needed is the modified semi-presidential system with cabinet and direct election of the heads of main government branches.
