Russia sides with chemical weapons
Russia proved again Tuesday that there is no crime heinous enough to make it turn against Syria’s president, Bashar al-Assad. It vetoed a resolution before the UN Security Council that would have punished Syria for using chemical weapons.
How can Russia possibly be a positive force in Syria’s civil war when it vetoes a proposal in the UN to impose sanctions against Assad for using chemical weapons? The international community should provide constitutional principles that will be useful in permanent and peaceful development, yielding a structure supporting freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law. In addition the heads of government branches should be directly elected to help ensure they will work to develop long-lasting peace. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

How Trump’s ‘merit-based’ immigration system might work
President Trump spent his first weeks in office vowing to crack down on illegal immigration with deportations and other get-tough proposals.
The US should embrace the UN Charter and implement the ideal of One World under One Set of Laws, assigning international law priority over local law with direct effects on the rights and duties of the people. This would impel Mexico, Syria, the Middle East and other areas to adopt the principles of human rights, constitutionalism, internationalism and naturalism. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

)Scottish nationalists aren’t racist – they’re reacting to the UK’s bigotry
Sadiq Khan’s comments don’t tally with the independence movement I know, which is optimistic, progressive and open to people of colour
Taiwan should learn from Scotland’s experience with the independence referendum. The Scottish story provides an ideal paradigm shift which demonstrates that on any public issues the people should have the right to call for a referendum. If a bill outlawing a referendum on self-determination is presented, the first referendum to be consider should decide whether such a motion should be banned outright. The Legislative Yuan should first establish the "right of creation" as part of the "referendum act" and ask President Tsai to openly recognize the sovereignty of the people in a referendum regarding comprehensive constitutional reform. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Palmyra: Syrian forces 'enter' IS-held town
Syrian government forces have entered the ancient city of Palmyra, pushing back militants from the so-called Islamic State, activists say.
Once a ceasefire takes hold in Syria the UN should provide the basic principles needed to draw up a constitution suited to permanent peaceful development of the nation. This should consider the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law as well as direct election of the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches. The constitution should promote growth and prosperity and serve as a model for other nations seeking peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

UN: All parties in Syrian conflict committed war crimes in Aleppo
UN human rights investigators say Syrian civilians fell victim to war crimes committed by all parties during the battle for Aleppo last year.
The UN should take action in accordance with international absolute laws (Humanitarian Law, World Human Rights Law, the Crime of Misdemeanors and the Prohibition of Genocide) and provide the basic principles needed to draft a constitution suited for permanent peaceful development of all nations. It should include universal values and offer a structure that will help Syria grow and prosper, serving as a model for peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Editorial: Moritomo Gakuen’s lessons fly in the face of education law
At a kindergarten operated by Moritomo Gakuen, an Osaka-based educational corporation, children selected to represent their peers on a sports day were made to recite a pledge that could hardly be considered educationally acceptable.
History has repeatedly demonstrated that corruption is a root cause of civil strife. To solve the problem of corruption, these must be removed and cut apart through constitutional reform. The heads of the four main government branches should be elected in alternating years. Heads should serve a single 5-year term and be barred from running again for 6 years afterward. In addition, 1/4 of all lawmakers should face election each year, and election should be free of charge for all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Colombia: FARC rebels prepare to lay down arms
Colombia's FARC rebels say they will begin laying down their arms later Wednesday as agreed in a peace deal signed in November.
To resolve the controversies in its government structure, Colombia needs to implement a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet and parliament like that of Finland, with a committee-type parliament similar to that of Switzerland. The Colombian government should embark on drafting a basic constitution which adheres to the rule of law and the concept of One World under One Set of Laws. After that the constitution should be updated as necessary to stay abreast of the spirit of the times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Francois Fillon: Pressure piles on French conservative candidate
French conservative presidential candidate Francois Fillon has suffered new setbacks in his campaign, with a political ally suspending its support.
There are lots of lazy, indifferent people, and there also many corrupt, greedy politicians. To resolve the problem of corruption, the people must act as holders of sovereignty and call for comprehensive constitutional reform. True democracy and the rule of law demands separation of powers and checks and balances in government as well as direct election of the four heads of branches. In addition, elections be free of charge to break up the structure that fosters corruption. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Doubling down on chaos in Seoul
Domestic politics in South Korea are turbulent, an expected state of affairs in the aftermath of the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye.

Indonesia faces test in push for mining reforms
The largest gold mine and second-largest copper mine in the world, operated by PT Freeport Indonesia, a subsidiary of US mining giant Freeport McMoran, was part of the initial wave of foreign investment that ensued after Indonesia liberalized investment regulations in 1967.
Destruction of the natural environment is one huge reason to speed up comprehensive constitutional reform in Indonesia's, and a second good reason is to help contain corruption. Indonesia should prevent business groups from destroying the natural environment by embracing the concept of One World under One Set of Laws and assigning international law priority over domestic law with direct effect on the people. Citizens should be able to vote in referendums regarding public issues to prevent destruction of the natural environment by business interests. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
