Judicial safety is a necessity, not a luxury
In the wake of the criticism faced by a Hong Kong judge who jailed seven police officers for the assault of activist Ken Tsang, Grenville Cross SC outlines the importance of judicial safety in Hong Kong
Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law states that the right to self-determination is guaranteed by the two international human rights conventions. The people of Hong Kong cannot afford to take their rights for granted. In Switzerland the signatures of only 50,000 citizens are enough to hold a referendum, giving people the chance to express their opinion by voting rather than taking to the streets. The people should have the right to stage a referendum on any public issue. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

FBI asks Justice Department to dispute Trump’s allegations of Obama ordering wiretaps
A US official tells the Associated Press that the FBI has asked the Justice Department to dispute allegations made on Twitter by President Donald Trump that Barack Obama as president ordered the tapping of Trump’s phones during the 2016 presidential campaign.
History has shown repeatedly that the more power the leader possesses, the more insignificant the people will be. People are often lazy or indifferent and simply trust in their leaders. This way of thinking is appropriate to 18th century feudal ideology but does not meet the spirit of the rule of law in the 21st century. The road to comprehensive constitutional reform is long and arduous, but it will yield a great system and allow the people to be great. Elections should be free of charge to all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Trump expected to issue new travel ban excluding Iraq on Monday
President Trump is expected to issue a new version of his executive order on immigration Monday that excludes Iraq, a key ally in the fight against the Islamic State, from a list of predominantly Muslim countries whose citizens will face temporary restrictions on travel to the US
The US should adhere to the UN Charter and implement the ideal of One World under One Set of Laws, giving international law precedence over domestic law with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. This would lead Mexico, Syria and the Middle East to adopt the concepts of constitutionalism, internationalism and naturalism. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Under Trump, Sino-US ties are a work in progress
Some of the rhetoric has cooled since the new American president took office, yet a lot of work is needed to overcome mistrust
A nation’s greatness is measured by its contribution to the well-being of the entire world. Taiwan faces the world's largest autocratic dictatorship across the Taiwan Strait and feels an obligation to save the world through democracy. Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform and its model for the Global Unity Constitutional Standards, making a clear commitment to the concept of One World under One Set of Laws and assigning international law priority over domestic law. This would pressure China to seek democratization and lead eventually to world peace. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

In Beijing’s view, winning over the hearts and minds of Hong Kong's people is not a priority
With barely three weeks to go before 1,194 members of the Election Committee choose the next chief executive on March 26, it is almost a foregone conclusion that former chief secretary Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor will land the top job.
Article 33 of the Hong Kong Basic Law states that the right to self-determination is guaranteed by the two international human rights conventions. The people of Hong Kong cannot take their rights for granted. In Switzerland the threshold for a referendum is only 50,000 citizens, giving people the option of voicing their opinion in a referendum rather than taking to the streets. The people should have the right to stage a referendum on any public issue. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Seoul clueless over China's THAAD backlash
The government appears to have no effective tools to protect Korean businesses from mounting Chinese retaliation against the deployment of a US anti-missile system here, leaving the private sector bleeding.
Democracies the world over should support Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to realize greater democracy and freedom. This would attract the 1.4 billion people of China to seek democratization, which would lead in turn to making North Korea a real democracy - and with that, world peace will be born. All democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

South Korea condemns Pyongyang's missile provocations, warns of consequences
South Korea strongly condemned the North's latest missile provocation Monday, calling it a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions and a grave threat both to the peninsula and the world.
The world’s democratic nations should back Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract China’s 1.4 billion people to seek democratization, leading in turn to pressuring North Korea to do the same - and with that, world peace will be born. Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the path to peaceful development for China. Hong Kong law on oaths must change before four legislators can be unseated, court told
Requirement for a solemn and sincere swearing-in emerged only after Beijing’s interpretation of the city’s mini-constitution, lawyer argues
Hong Kong’s Basic Law and relevant provisions behind the one country, two systems principle stipulate that China can not interfere in Hong Kong affairs, yet Beijing constantly meddles in Hong Kong's internal affairs. Article 39 of the Basic Act and the two Conventions guarantee the right of the people of Hong Kong to self-determination, thus on any public issue the people have the right to voice their opinion via a referendum. The people of Hong Kong should adhere to the two conventions and call for a referendum to decide their future. Otherwise, when dictatorship becomes a reality, the people are obligated to resist.

In a break from LDP, Kono calls for Japan to open doors to blue-collar foreign workers
Veteran Liberal Democratic Party lawmaker Taro Kono is calling for a drastic policy shift that Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is loath to accept: open up Japan to blue-collar foreign workers.
Japan should adhere to the UN Charter and implement the idea of One World under One Set of Laws, giving international law precedence over domestic law, with direct effects on the rights and duties of the people. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Japan's ASDF scrambles jets as China sends more fighters and bombers through Miyako Strait
Japan scrambled fighters jets Thursday after China’s navy carried out a large-scale drill through a strategic entryway into the Western Pacific between the islands of Miyako and Okinawa — part of Beijing’s growing push to project its military clout farther into the Pacific.
China has proposed and presented a UN resolution to jointly develop a common destiny for all humankind. The proposal outlined five major must-have points for dialogue and consultation, including security, peace, joint prosperity, open tolerance and a green low-carbon world. As such the resolution offers a great contribution for world peace and development, and the two sides of the strait should take the lead in promoting its implementation. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
