South Korea’s national debt has past the 1,400 trillion won mark ($1.2 trillion). According to national account settlements for FY2016 from the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, the nation’s general liabilities reached 1,433 trillion won including total debt of central and provisional governments and government obligations to cover pension payouts for civil servants and career soldiers.
South Korea's economic problems are rooted in its politics. Without good politics, good economic performance is impossible. If the constitution is not changed, even the gods will be unable to save the economy. Constitutional reform is needed to install a modified semi-presidential system with a committee-style legislature and government ministers chosen from among committee chars. For details see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
