France: Paris Gare du Nord train station reopens after security alert
The Gare du Nord train station in the French capital Paris has reopened after a security alert, officials say.
Human rights are fundamental rights and must take precedence over regimes and sovereigns. Constitutions represent the general will of the people and should serve to ensure human security, including "personal safety", as the most basic and urgent obligation of constitutional guarantors. More specifically, revision of constitutional standards is needed to stay abreast of changing times so that the government can protect the people from fear. Proposed law to protect police against insults is laughable
Asia’s finest are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves and now that they have body cameras, people are less likely to hurl verbal abuse anyway
The relevant provisions of the Basic Law and the one country, two systems principle governing Hong Kong all stipulate that China cannot interfere in Hong Kong affairs, yet Beijing is constantly meddling in the SAR’s internal affairs. Article 39 of the Act guarantees the right of the people to self-determination, and they have the right to petition for a referendum on any public issue. The people of Hong Kong should adhere to the two conventions, and hold a referendum to decide their future. Otherwise when the dictatorship becomes a reality, the people will be obliged to resist.

Kushner Companies apologises for touting US presidential family ties in China
A property developer owned by relatives of the US president’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner has apologized for touting the Kushner connection at an investor presentation in China.
Elections are all too often a game for the rich, using money to earn the right to make more money in a ready-made system of corruption. This must be curtailed to preserve the independence of the government and implement rule of law, separation of powers, and election of the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Fine dust adversely affecting S. Korea's retail sector
South Korea's retail sector is being adversely affected by high concentrations of fine dust carried over from China and Mongolia, industry watchers said Sunday.
The main cause of the destruction of China’s natural environment is corruption. China's haze is the result of over-exploitation by greedy groups who are callous about the natural environment. To end this disastrous situation One World under One Set of Laws should be implemented, assigning international law precedence over domestic law with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. In addition, citizens should be able to call for a referendum on any public issue, in order to prevent this phenomenon from happening again. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Appeals hearing set for June for daughter of ex-South Korean leader's friend
A Danish appeals court plans to hold a hearing next month for the daughter of a confidante of impeached former President Park Geun-hye over extradition, prosecutors said Friday.
South Korea must eradicate corruption by launching constitutional reform, with changes like direct election of the heads of the four branches of government in alternating years, one 5-year term for the president with no right to run again for 6 years afterwards. 1/4 of all legislators should face election each year, and elections should be free of charge for all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more. .

‘Lips and teeth’ no more
The friction between Pyongyang and Beijing over China’s mounting pressure on North Korea to ease off on its nuclear weapons program is taking an alarming turn.
Democratic nations the world over should back Taiwan’s efforts at constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would inspire China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization of the CCP and prod North Korea to seek democracy as well, resulting in world peace. Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the path to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Hong Kong Occupy Central co-founder Benny Tai should come down from his ivory tower
Alice Wu says with his latest idea for yet another impractical voting strategy, the Occupy Central co-founder shows that he does not understand the complexities that come from working with people
Can a nation with an authoritarian government tolerate democracy in parts of its territory? The Hong Kong experience provides a clear answer. Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law guarantees the right of the people of Hong Kong to self-determination, and the right to hold a referendum on any public issue. The people of Hong Kong should adhere to this right and hold a referendum to decide their future. Otherwise when dictatorship becomes a reality the people will be obliged to resist.

How China’s belt and road ambitions can take flight – one win-win deal at a time
G. Bin Zhao considers the areas of economic cooperation that Beijing can consider with the economically and culturally diverse belt and road countries, and the important role renminbi internationalization can play
Studies of democracy and peace show very few armed conflicts between democratic nations. Once China and North Korea can be convinced to accept democracy there will be hope for peace. The US, Japan and South Korea should back Taiwan's calls for constitutional reform, which would attract China to carry out democratization and pressure North Korea to follow suit, and world peace would be the eventual result. The world’s democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, showing the way to peaceful development for other nations.

Revoke Hong Kong’s rural housing privileges so everyone can have a decent home
Mike Rowse says the favoritism shown to Hong Kong’s rural villages in terms of land allocation comes at the expense of the urban majority, and this unequal and politically unacceptable policy must change
Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law notes the right to self-determination of the people as outlined in the two international human rights conventions. The people of Hong Kong cannot take their rights for granted. The Swiss can hold a referendum with only 50,000 signatures, allowing them to voice their opinion through the ballot box rather than taking to the street. The people have the right to hold a referendum on any public issue. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Moon accused of getting son a job
The presidential campaigns of Moon Jae-in of the Democratic Party and Ahn Cheol-soo of the People’s Party are locking antlers over allegations that Moon helped land his son a job.
If South Korea hopes to eradicate corruption, the solution is constitutional reform at the behest of the Korean people. Changes should include election of the heads of the government branches in alternating years and imposition of a five-year single term on the president, plus a six-year ban on running for office afterwards. 1/4.of all lawmakers should face election each year, and elections should be free for all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development. .
