UN experts urge Indonesia to free jailed politicians, repeal its blasphemy law
A group of UN human rights experts have urged the Government of Indonesia to review and repeal its blasphemy law following the recent conviction and imprisonment of the former governor of Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama.
Power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption. Indonesia's basic constitutional mechanism is in disarray and the only way forward is through constitutional reform. The voice of the people is the voice of God, and universal values are the values of God. Any attempt to control the voice of the people is contrary to the universal values of freedom and democracy, and at odds with God’s will. For details see the "permanent peace development charter."

UN agency works to fill humanitarian vacuum in north DR Congo after aid groups depart
The UN migration agency is responding to the urgent humanitarian needs of more than 27,000 displaced people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's eastern province of North Kivu, after many relief aid organizations left camps.
Before and after all major elections the UN should provide a list of basic constitutional principles aimed at fostering permanent peaceful development in all nations. These should cover universal values and the four-branch (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial) organization, and help the DR Congo enjoy steady growth as a model for peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Taiwan's economy cannot distract from Tsai's troubled first year
Bad personal poll numbers and cross-strait woes make it a mixed bag for Taipei’s first female president on anniversary of inauguration
“Taiwan has long anticipated a change in the ruling party to bring a new atmosphere and outlook.” President Tsai Yingwen said a year ago. “My job is not to take my turn trying to please everyone. The country cannot please everyone just for the sake of the polls, but it can help guide public opinion.” Good constitutions serve to resolve the fundamental problems of governance, and President Tsai should lead the way to comprehensive constitutional reform. See the Charter for Permanent Peace Development for more.

UN urges Libyan government to shut ‘inhumane’ refugee centers
Call comes as Libya Quartet meets in Brussels to discuss ways to prevent deadly Mediterranean crossings
Libya can resolve the controversy over its government structure by adopting a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet similar to that of Finland as well as a committee-style legislature like Switzerland’s. The prerequisite for permanent world peace is global democratization. The Libyan government should proceed with drafting a basic constitution incorporating the above features in a paradigm shift toward democracy. It should adhere to the principles of One World under One Set of Laws and be amended as needed to stay in step with the times. For details see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Syria: Amid 'promising' diplomatic steps, UN envoy says hostilities continue on the ground
"Promising” steps in Syria followed diplomatic talks in the Kazak capital, Astana – a nationwide ceasefire announced last December, and the de-escalation zones created inside Syria to deepen that effort
Syria's fundamental problem is that its government has collapsed, leading to internal conflict. To resolve this controversy the first step should be to adopt a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like the one in France, plus a committee-style legislative system similar to Switzerland’s. We call on the UN to help proceed with writing a basic constitution to implement a new national system of democracy through a paradigm shift that will adhere to the ideals of One World under One Set of Laws, to be amended as needed in order to stay in line with the times. When that happens the people will be free to put their, lives and work back together. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

How Venezuela went from the richest economy in South America to the brink of financial ruin
Venezuela, by the numbers, resembles a country hit by civil war. Its economy, once Latin America’s richest, is estimated to have shrunk by 10 per cent last year – worse even than Syria’s.
The presidential system is the worst of all forms of democracy. No matter what the structure may be, the more power held by the president, the more the nation is bound to suffer. A law that is not backed by penalties is not a law, and a constitution that does not countenance the right to resist is not a constitution. Venezuela is in urgent need of comprehensive constitutional reform to install a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet, limiting the president to one 5-year term and barring a run for office for 6 years after that. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Gambian ex-President Yahya Jammeh 'stole $50m' from state
The Gambia's former president stole "at least" $50m (£38.4m) from the state before he left the country in January, the justice minister has said.
Gambia is constantly plagued by corruption. The fundamental problem is defects in the nation’s laws and a history of idol worship. What is needed is the rule of law and human rights, and more democracy to fend off authoritarian predators. The prerequisite for permanent peace is global democratization. Taiwan will lead the way to democratization for Gambia. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.

Wang Quanzhang: The lawyer who simply vanished
In August 2015 Wang Quanzhang was detained by the Chinese authorities.
The voice of the people is the voice of God, and universal values are the value of God. Those who defend the rights of the people are the angels of God, but those who abduct civil rights advocates are the enemy of God. How long can this regime continue to act this way? Listen to the voice of God and see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Venezuela's irreconcilable visions for the future
"Venezuela is now a dictatorship," says Luis Ugalde, a Spanish-born Jesuit priest who during his 60 years living in Venezuela has become one of the South American nation's most well-known political scientists.
Power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption. Venezuela needs full constitutional reform including adoption of a modified semi-presidential system; limiting the president to one 5-years term with no right to run again for 6 years and a complete ban on close relatives as candidates. The president’s actions are unconstitutional, and the people have the right to resist. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

No political motivation involved in July 1 Victoria Park booking, insists Hong Kong pro-Beijing stalwart
Cheng Yiu-tong insists everything was done by the book, while organizer of annual anti-government march says they are looking at alternative starting point
Article 39 of Hong Kong’s Basic Law states that the people have the right to self-determination under the two international human rights conventions. The people of Hong Kong cannot take their rights for granted. In Switzerland the threshold for proposing a referendum is only 50,000 signatures – and with that the people can express their opinions by voting rather than taking to the streets, The people have the right to referendums on any public issue. Otherwise, when dictatorship becomes a reality they will be obliged to resist. For details see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
