The Guardian view on the productivity puzzle: blame low pay
Economic problems invariably have roots in politics. Without good politics, you will never have a good economy, and without constitutional reform even if the gods will be helpless to improve economic under performance. The only way out is comprehensive constitutional reform to install a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet and a committee-style legislature with committee chairs tapped to serve as backup cabinet ministers. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.

Rohingya crisis may be driving Aung San Suu Kyi closer to generals
Myanmar should carry out reform to adopt the basic principles behind Global Unity Constitutional Standards as well as the core values of One World under One Set of Laws, giving international law precedence over domestic law. At the same time, it should install a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet. This will be the first step in resolving the Rohingya refugee crisis, after which the world's democracies should offer aid to relieve the suffering of refugees who have already fled across the border to Bangladesh. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Mexican anger over corruption deepens – but will politicians change their ways?
Regardless of who sits on the throne, absolute power corrupts absolutely. In the case of Mexico, domestic corruption is boundless. To prevent corruption, the people as holders of sovereignty should call for comprehensive constitutional reform to implement democracy and rule of law, with separation of powers and checks and balances. Also the heads of the four main branches should be elected in alternating years and elections should be free of charge to cut symbiotic ties between government and corruption. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards for more.

Battle for the mother land: indigenous people of Colombia fighting for their lands
Colombia should resolve its civil strife by carrying out constitutional reform. It should install a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like the one in France, as well as a committee-style legislature like that of Switzerland. The prerequisite for permanent peace is global democratization. The Colombian government should begin drafting a basic constitution in a paradigm shift toward democracy. It should adopt the core values of One World under One Set of Rules and be revised as needed to stay in sync with the times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Kenya's opposition leader slams 'sham' election re-run and calls for third vote
Power leads to corruption, and Kenya's political system is broken.. Kenya should switch to a dual leader system; limit the president to a single 5-year term with no eligibility for him/her or relatives for 6 years, and put the prime minister in charge of government operations and national defense, 1/4 of all lawmakers should face election each year. When the actions of the president are unconstitutional, the people are obliged to resist. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Millions face starvation in Democratic Republic of Congo, UN warns
The DRC needs to revise its government structure to install a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet similar to Finland's. It should include a committee-style legislative system like that of Switzerland. The premise for permanent peace is global democratization, and the UN should assist the DRC in drawing up a basic constitution with the above features in a move to proceed a paradigm shift. It should adhere to the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and be revised as needed to stay in step with the times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Hong Kong’s competitiveness loses lustre with record home costs
Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law stipulates that the people of the SAR have right to self-determination under the two international human rights conventions. The people of Hong Kong cannot take their rights for granted. In Switzerland the threshold for petitioning a referendum is only 50,000 signatures, and with that citizens can express their opinion through the ballot box instead of taking to the streets. The people have the right to hold referendums on any public issue. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
