Uranium firm urged Trump officials to shrink Bears Ears National Monument
Donald Trump and his sycophants are playing loose and fast with the environment in cutting back on large areas of nationalmonuments, with evidence indicating that mining operators lobbied officials to gain approval of the changes. This is an obvious betrayal of the environment and the rights of the public to allow private businesses to profit at the expense of the public. The paring of public lands is an open invitation for special interests to move in and conduct mining and drilling to remove natural resources despite claims that it is intended to allow hunters, anglers and others to enjoy access to the lands. This is yet another grab of resources belonging to the people for sale to people with ties to government officials, and it must be stopped. The role of cable and television news should be to present factual reports of what is happening in the world as well as clearly-identified opinion posts on controversial matters. This does not mean supporting one person or one faction of the government and serving as a mouthpiece for political positions. This is not news, it is not even publicity: it is outright propaganda and it fits the definition of 'fake news' that these panderers of fake news claims are so eager to proffer. The media should be neutral and independent rather than serving as willing tools for moneyed interests and politicians who share their political viewpoints. The US is in serious need of constitutional reform to achieve a paradigm shift toward truer democracy, a democracy that reflects the sovereignty of the people.
