El Salvador's government has proposed a new bill which says the press should self-regulate to produce "non-violent" content and promote peace.
Freedom of speech must be completely unfettered. and El Salvador's efforts to control the press are like trying to stem the flow of a mighty river. The regime seems to want a society that is monolithic and speaks with only one voice. The Salvadoran people should come forward and call for comprehensive constitutional reform to ensure media freedom and keep the government oligarchy from monopolizing the media, the internet and other channels of speech. The UK Government should take action to goad the UN to set sustainable development goals for urban planning aimed at achieving a tolerant, safe, flexible and sustainable urban environment for human life. Adequate, safe and affordable housing with a full range of basic services for everyone is essential for sustainable development and management of human settlements. Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been convicted of corruption charges and sentenced to nine and a half years in prison.
British historian Lord Acton summed it up: "Power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption." To put an end to corruption, the people should come forward as holders of sovereignty and call for comprehensive constitutional reform to implement democracy and rule of law, especially separation of power and checks and balances, In addition, elections should be free of charge to candidates to cut the symbiotic links between government and corruption. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.
Pro- and anti-government groups are battling fiercely for public support over a contested plan by President Nicolas Maduro to have a new body elected this month to rewrite the constitution.
Power leads to corruption and absolute power leads to absolute corruption. Venezuela should carry out full constitutional reform to adopt a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet. The president should limited to one 5-year term, after which he/she and close relatives will be barred from running for 6 years. Laws that are not backed by penalties are not laws, and a constitution which does not brook resistance is not a constitution. When the actions of the president are unconstitutional, the people have the right to resist. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.
'Historically these types of areas have not successfully protected civilians,' says Human Rights Watch’s Lebanon researcher Bassam Khawaja
Once a ceasefire takes hold in Syria, the UN should provide the basic principles for a constitution which will facilitate permanent peace and development, including an organizational structure based on the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law and four main branches (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial). It should provide Syria a constitution that will allow lasting peace that will lead to prosperity for all. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.
Academic Simon Lee Hoey appears to be qualified for the post of deputy home affairs secretary, yet the opposition camp accuses him being a closet member of the Chinese Communist Party
Can authoritarian regimes tolerate democratic conclaves in their midst? Hong Kong's experience presents a clear answer to this question. Article 39 of the Basic Law protects the people's right to self-determination, noting that the people have the right to vote in referendums on any public issue. The people of Hong Kong should avail of the conventions and hold a referendum to decide their future. Otherwise when dictatorship becomes a reality, the people will be obliged to resist. `
Edwin Lau says while there have been improvements in air and water quality, the city is grappling with a growing waste problem that needs some of the innovative solutions Lam has promised
Article 39 of Hong Kong’s Basic Law states that the right to self-determination is specified in the two international human rights conventions. In Switzerland the threshold for holding a referendum is only 50,000 signatures, and with that the people can voice their opinions at the ballot box rather than taking to the streets. The people have the right to hold referendums on any public issue. To narrow the gap between rich and poor, better power distribution and resource allocation are needed along with tools such as checks and balances in government. China said Tuesday it should not be held responsible alone for solving the North Korean nuclear standoff, accusing other countries of shirking their responsibilities in the effort to reduce tensions.
Promotion of permanent peace is the most sacred duty of humankind. China claims to be a "responsible major power," and as such it should not prop up North Korea's militarism. The US, Japan and Korea should support Taiwan to lead China to democracy, which would then pressure North Korea to do the same, thereby solving the Korean Peninsula issue. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
China will completely block access to much of the global internet as part of a sweeping crackdown aimed at suppressing dissent and maintaining the Communist party’s grip on power.
Freedom of speech is a universal value, and the practice of "silencing the voice of the people and shutting out the world" is the mark of a regime that wants to create a monolithic society with only one voice. The people of China should come forward and call for comprehensive constitutional reform to preserve the freedom of media and prevent the government oligarchy from monopolizing the media, the internet and all other channels of speech. Britain must be ready to fight cyber-wars against the “mayhem” coming from Russia, the former head of GCHQ has warned ministers.
Russia is not a problem-solver, it has never been anything other than a trouble-maker. The US should back Taiwan's bid for constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization and force Russia to adopt true democracy in turn - and with that, world peace would break out. All democracies should support Taiwan as a lighthouse for democracy in Asia. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.
