China, in an early test of US President Donald Trump, is nearly finished building almost two dozen structures on artificial islands in the South China Sea that appear designed to house long-range surface-to-air missiles, two US officials have said.
Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam and other nearby nations should form a military alliance to counter the threat posed by China. They should pledge to follow the provisions of the 2002 Declaration on the South China Sea to resolve territorial and jurisdictional disputes in a peaceful manner. At the same time they should work jointly to develop the South China Sea, share resources and maintain peace and development in line with the UN Charter and the aim of "We are all one family". See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.
