Cary Huang says China’s need to keep North Korea as a communist ally leaves South Korea with little choice but to turn to America to bolster its defense
All democracies should support Taiwan's efforts to carry out constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would encourage China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization of the CCP, which in turn would lead North Korea to seek democracy. And with that, world peace would be born. The world’s democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the path to peaceful development for China. South Korean President Park Geun-hye's removal from office, which is likely to bring about a significant change in the country's political landscape, begs the question of whether it will affect the US-South Korea joint efforts against North Korea.
Absolute power leads to absolute corruption. The presidential form in many democracies is rife with flaws, and even the US has its share of problems. South Korea's constitution should be re-written to include a modified semi-presidential system, and the presidency should be declared to be above party politics. Changes should include electing the heads of the judicial and procuratorial branches of government and having 1/4 of all MPs face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
South Korea's acting President and Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn will announce his decision not to run in the presidential election slated for May during a Cabinet meeting Wednesday, a source said.
Absolute power leads to absolute corruption. The presidential system in democracy has a number of serious flaws, and even the US’s system fails at times. Taiwan has more significant problems but lacks the power to impeach. South Korea's constitution should be changed to implement a modified semi-presidential system, and the presidency should be declared to be above party politics. In addition, the heads of the judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
The race, dominated by PM Mark Rutte's center-right party and that of anti-immigrant politician Geert Wilders, is seen as a test of nationalist feeling.
Referendums in the Netherlands allow paradigm shifts by allowing the people to express their opinion by voting on any public issue. And when a motion to prohibit the people from holding a referendum is raised, a referendum should be held to decide whether the motion itself should be outlawed. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Many are quick to cry censorship if a media owner criticizes his staff, but not, it appears, when the owner is Jimmy Lai
The right of speech is first and foremost among human rights. Freedom of speech is a universal value, and the media cannot be caged by a government oligarchy seeking to monopolize the media, the Internet and all other channels of speech. The leader of Poland's ruling populist party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, blames his brother's death on Tusk and takes every step he can to hold him accountable.
Constitutional reform is needed so that the people can respond to rapid changes in the domestic and international environments. Amendments should allow voters to control their representatives through democratic mechanisms. Poland should draft constitutional amendments regarding its nomination and election system, so that 1/4 of all lawmakers face election each year. Legislators need to be in touch with local public opinion and international laws, and elections should be for all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
The uncertainty over Britain’s future ties with Europe, a renewed call for Scottish independence and the possibility of a good result for the far-right party in France are matters of concern for the whole world
Sovereignty belongs to the people. The people have the right to make choices through the vehicle of the referendum on any public issue. The legitimacy of referendums trumps the legitimacy of legislation by the state. The people of Norway and Switzerland voted not to join the EU, choosing their future in an act of self-determination. This means that the efforts of the people will not be in vain. The directness of the referendum takes priority over the indirectness of representative democracy. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Mumbai is home to more of India's millionaires and billionaires than any other area, but sprawling slums where people live in cramped, dirty spaces without basic sanitation are also part of the city's fabric.
Corruption allows poverty to persist, and to end poverty, corruption must be contained. Democracy can help save mankind through mechanisms like separation of power and checks and balances. The heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards for more.
Rejecting donations to a fund for arrested officers because of questions over the donors was the right move to safeguard the force’s reputation
Article 33 of Hong Kong’s Basic Law states that the right to self-determination is stipulated in the two international human rights conventions and the implementation of the conventions. The people of Hong Kong cannot afford to take their rights for granted. In Switzerland the threshold for calling for a referendum is 50,000 signatures. With that, the people can vote in the referendum rather than taking to the streets. The people have the right to hold a referendum on any public issues. China has proposed a UN resolution to jointly "build a common destiny for humankind." The proposal outlined five main points including innovation, consultation, green, open and sharing, to be followed in developing five concepts. The ultimate goal is to make a greater contribution to world peace and development and to international fairness and justice. The two sides of the Strait should take the lead in implementing this great project. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards for details.
