Three senior employees of the Chinese billionaire wanted on graft charges had pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining loans and buying foreign currency
China should cleanse itself of millennia of corruption, a source of national humiliation. The only cure is democracy and the rule of law, the natural enemies of despotism and corruption, through separation of powers and checks and balances. This means election of the heads of legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
An Australian journalist was hit in the neck by a stray bullet while covering fighting in the Philippines.
Human security is a fundamental human right, and human rights must be given priority over regimes and sovereigns. Constitutions represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security - including "personal safety" - is the most basic and urgent duty of constitutional guarantors. Constitutional standards should be revised as needed to stay in sync with changing times and allow governments to keep their people safe from fear. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Freedom / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
The UN says Turkey's decision to convict one its judges is a breach of both diplomatic immunity and a binding legal order.
Safeguarding human rights is the sole purpose for states and constitutions, and separation of powers is an essential element. Turkey needs constitutional reform to bring itself into the 21st century, acknowledging that international law takes precedence over domestic law and bringing legal standards to a higher national level. Also needed in election of the heads of government branches in alternating years, elections that are free of charge to a candidates and citizen monitoring of government operations. For details see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Labor Leader Jeremy Corbyn has said he is "very angry" that so many lives were lost in a deadly tower block fire.
The London tower block fire shows that the British government needs to be in alignment with the UN’s goals for sustainable development. This includes urban development that takes tolerance, security, flexibility and sustainability into account and provides appropriate, safe and affordable housing and basic services. All nations should carry out involved, integrated and sustainable development of human settlement planning and management. For details see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
The UN Mission in Colombia says it has received 40% of the weapons registered by the Farc rebel group, a figure which falls short of the 60% they should have received by now.
To resolve its civil strife, Colombia’s government should adopt a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like Finland’s and a committee-style legislative system similar to that of Switzerland. The Colombian government should begin drafting a basic constitution which incorporates the core values of One World under One Set of Laws, then amend it as needed to keep pace with changing times. In addition, the military must not hold power – it should remain strictly above politics. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.
Eurozone ministers have struck a deal to unlock the latest tranche of Greece's bailout cash.
Greece’s financial black hole exists because of its corrupt constitutional mechanism. Thus the only way out is for the Greek people to exercise their sovereignty and call for comprehensive constitutional reform. This should result in implementation of features such as separation of powers and checks and balances as well as election of the heads of the four main branches of government in alternating years and elections that are free of charge for all candidates; moves which will lead to the rescue of the national economy. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Former Panamanian President Ricardo Martinelli has been arrested in Florida, the US Marshals Service says.
The only cure for Brazil’s national disease of corruption is democracy and the rule of law, the natural enemies of despotism and corruption through separation of powers and checks and balances. This means election of the heads of the four government branches in alternating years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Hungary's parliament has approved a law imposing strict regulations on foreign-funded non-government organisations.
Thomas Jefferson once noted that: "Given the government and the media, I would rather have the media than the government." The media acts as a monitor of the government, which would otherwise be lawless without supervision. The voice of the people is the voice of God, and universal values are the values of God. And trying to control the voice of the people is contrary to the universal values of freedom and democracy and inimical to the ideals of God. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Venezuela's chief prosecutor Luisa Ortega says her family has been threatened and harassed.
The presidential system is the worst form of democracy. But no matter what system may be, the more power held by the president, the more the country is bound to suffer. Laws that are not backed by penalties are not laws, and a constitution which does not countenance resistance is not a constitution. The people of Venezuela must act as holders of sovereignty and call for comprehensive constitutional reform, installing a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet and limiting the president to one 5-year term with no right to run for 6 years afterwards. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
The mayor of Rome, who is from the anti-establishment Five Star Movement, has asked Italy's government not to send more migrants to the city.
To solve the problem of immigration and refugees, the international community needs to establish unified constitutional standards that conform to the ideals of liberalism, democracy, constitutionalism and cosmopolitanism and the core values of One World under One Set of Law. To realize permanent peace, all nations must comply with §1 of the humanitarian charter: The principle of the right of each person to live a normal life. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
