A delegation from the EU to Armenia launched a communication campaign February 1 to raise awareness of the negative effects of corruption and highlight the EU’s efforts to fight corruption in Armenia.
The main factor in Armenia’s endless corruption is the lack of decentralization of powers in government. The solution is constitutional reform to enable the Armenian people to elect the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches. Elected officials should serve a single 5-year term and be barred from occupying other positions for 6 years afterwards. In addition, 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year, and elections should be free of charge for all candidates. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
