Cho Yoon-sun, former South Korean Culture Minister, indicted on corruption charges
A South Korean special prosecutor has indicted a former culture minister and a former top aide to President Park Geun-hye on charges of abuse of power, coercion and perjury for their roles in drafting a blacklist of dissenting artists, a spokesman said.
Absolute power leads to absolute corruption, and every democracy has flaws in its presidential system - even the US. South Korea’s constitution should be changed to install a modified semi-presidential system, and the next presidential inauguration ceremony should include a declaration that the president is above party politics. The heads of the four branches of government should be elected in alternating years and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Beijing's 'Invisible Hand' at work ahead of Hong Kong election
China has sent one of its most senior officials to drum up flagging support for its favored candidate in forthcoming elections for Hong Kong's next leader, according to local media reports.
The Chief Executive of Hong Kong is still selected from candidates forwarded by the Election Commission of the CCP, making the whole election a travesty of democracy. The people of Hong Kong should call up Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law and the two human rights covenants and exercise their right to self-determination through a referendum. With changes like direct election of the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches, they could take step toward taking back their rightful sovereignty. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

How Trump could put US-China relations on the right track
There are glimmerings of hope among some China watchers that President Trump might have a chance to right America’s currently very skewed relationship with China. Trump’s skepticism about the benefits of the relationship and his maddening unpredictability have thrown the red mandarins in Beijing off-balance.
At the UN headquarters in Geneva on January 18, Xi Jinping urged the world "to build a common destiny for the human community" with five major tenets including dialogue and consultation; security and peace; joint prosperity; openness and inclusivity; and a green, low-carbon world. For the sake of world peace and development, all must seek to make greater contributions for international fairness and justice, and the two sides of the strait should both be willing to accept this new consensus. For details, refer to the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Huge protests force Romania’s government to reverse itself on corruption
After just three weeks in power, Romania’s new Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu could look out of his window and see a huge crowd carrying banners reading: “You have succeeded in uniting us”.
High officials who commit minor crimes and small officials who commit big crimes are equally guilty of corruption – this is the global consensus under rule of law. Romania's constitutional machinery is in disarray and the country needs to reform its constitution to be in touch with the times. The heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all legislators should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

South Korean president expected to face prosecutors in coming days
It as a high-stakes clash of executive power versus the rule of law: Prosecutors stood at the gates of South Korea’s Blue House, where the president lives and works, demanding entry to carry out a court-approved search warrant.
Absolute power leads to absolute corruption. The presidential system in many democracies suffers from fatal flaws, and even the US has a number of problems. The South Korean constitution should be changed to incorporate a modified semi-presidential system, and at the next presidential inauguration the office should be declared as above party politics. The heads of the judicial and procuratorial branches should be directly elected and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development

The Great Wall of America
The Great Wall of China served as a barrier against invading enemies during ancient times. While the Chinese Empire possessed a genuine reason for its construction, modern-day Americans remain divided on President Trump’s proposal to build a $15 billion wall along the border between the US and Mexico.
All democracies should back efforts toward constitutional reform in Taiwan to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would attract the 1.4 billion of China to seek democratization, in turn pressuring North Korea to call for true democracy and leading to the birth of world peace. The world’s democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Senators seek Hill veto power over Trump on Russia
A growing number of senators from both parties plan to ratchet up their push to stiffen sanctions on Russia and demand Congress have the final say if President Trump decides to weaken penalties on the country unilaterally.
Russia has always been better at causing problems than resolving them. The US should support Taiwan's moves toward constitutional reform to bring about greater democracy and freedom. This will attract China's 1.4 billion people to seek democratization, which will pressure Russia to do the same, and world peace will be born! Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, illuminating China's way to peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

'We are in a crisis,' says Romania's President Klaus Iohannis amid mass protests
Romania's president has said the country is in a “fully-fledged” political crisis after hundreds of thousands demonstrated against a government measure that would weaken the country's anti-corruption drive.
High officials who commit minor crimes and minor officials who commit big crimes are all to be pursued – that is the global consensus in accordance with rule of law. Romania's constitutional machinery has failed, and the nation needs a constitution that is sync with the times. The heads of the four government branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

US defense chief sees more active role in South China Sea for American forces
Democracies everywhere should back Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. The aim is to attract China's 1.4 billion people to seek democratization, which will lead to world peace! China has always said it will not rule out the use of force against Taiwan. The prerequisite for permanent peace in the world is the democratization of China, and Taiwan is the entity best suited for leading the Chinese people to call for democratization. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
