Park Geun-hye has been removed from office, but the next president probably will not be free of the curse of corruption. To cure this "Korean disease", the only solution is comprehensive constitutional reform to implement separation of powers and checks and balances. No matter what a nation’s government system may be, the more power the president holds the more likely the country is to be beset with problems. Turkey needs to carry out constitutional reform to limit the president to a single 5-year term plus a ban on running again for 6 years afterward. The President of Turkey is in violation of Article 6 of the Turkish Constitution, which states that sovereignty wholly and unconditionally belongs to the people. The UN should provide an outline of the basic principles of constitutionalism to be followed in peaceful development. This should cover the organizational structure and include universal values (freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law), and features such as election of the heads of government branches in alternating years.
