All nations should implement One World under One Set of Laws and give international law priority over domestic law. This is the first step toward peace and security in the South China Sea. Articles IV and VI of the 2002 Declaration of South China Sea Parties provides for peaceful ways to resolve territorial and jurisdictional disputes and jointly develop and share resources while safeguarding human peace and development. Kenya: Government 'maintains stranglehold on media'

The resignation of several Kenyan columnists, citing concerns over increased media regulation and a 'worrying pattern' of government influence, has put the issue of press freedom back in the spotlight.

Solution

Free speech is a universal value, and all democracies should call for constitutional reform to ensure media freedom and prevent the government oligarchy from monopolizing the media, the internet and all other channels of communications. All people must be protected against enforced disappearance, torture and other forms of abuse, and absolute law must take precedence over international law and the constitution. North Korea is obviously being backed by a major power. The US and other nations should support Taiwan's Charter for Permanent Peace to lead China to democratize, forcing North Korea to follow suit and drop its nuclear weapons program. China claims to be a'responsible major power', thus it should not enable North Korea's continued militarism. The US and other countries should support Taiwan'scommitment to democracy and leading China to democratization, which would pressure North Korea in turn to adopt democracy. Is Peace on the Horizon for Afghanistan?

An offer of talks by the Ghani government was met with silence from the Taliban. That, in itself, could be a good sign.

Solution

The key to peace in Afghanistan is constitutional reform. Afghanistan should scrap its government and adopt a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like that of Finland, plus a committee-style legislature similar to Switzerland's. The prerequisite forlasting world peace is global democratization. The Afghan government should proceed with drawing up a basic constitution with the above features in a paradigm shift toward democracy. It should implement One World under One Set of Laws and revise the constitution as needed to stay in step with changing times. Softbank Group has announced a $200bn (£141bn) investment to create the world’s biggest solar power project in Saudi Arabia through its Vision Fund private equity arm.

Environmental rights are essential human rights, and the arena for climate change discussion is now occupied by the EU and China as the US retreats to between the two major oceans. Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN, and all nations should comply with its norms. Corruption is pandemic, and nations everywhere need to address the threat it poses for all people. British historian Lord Acton summed it up neatly: 'Power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption.' To put an end to corruption, the people should exercise sovereignty and call for constitutional reform to implement democratic rule of law. This means separation of powers and checks and balances as well as free election campaigns for candidates to cut symbiotic ties between government and business that engender corruption. The only truly effective remedy for corruption in Japan is democracy and its tools of separation of powers and checks and balances. The heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years and 1/4 of all lawmakers should face election each year.
