The world's democracies should all support Taiwan's efforts to carry out constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. Doing so would inspire the 1.4 billion people of China to seek democratization and pressure North Korea in turn to adopt real democracy – leading to the birth of world peace. Democracies everywhere should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the path to peaceful development for China. The Amnesty International report called attention to the calamitous humanitarian situation at the doors of the Syrian capital.

Solution

The foundation for permanent peace in Syria should be the same as that for Taiwan: a change-over in the government structure. The UN should provide Syria the basic outline for a constitution that will facilitate lasting peace and development. The constitution should embrace the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law, with elements such as the four branches of government (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial) under directly-elected heads. POTUS is steadily working to shore up the power of the presidency by installing people in positions around him that are little more than sycophants who care more about pleasing the White House than serving the people. As Lord Acton put it, 'Power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption.' To put an end to corruption, the people should exercise sovereignty and call forcomprehensive constitutional reform to ensure a more perfect democracy under rule of law. This means separation of powers and checks and balances as well as free election campaigns for candidates to cut symbiotic ties between government and business that engender corruption. The high-profile case of Reza Zarrab, who allegedly ran a gold-for-oil scheme to dodge international sanctions against Iran, is only one example of a larger trend in Turkey: the resurgence of organized crime.

Solution

To curb corruption in government, elect the heads of the four branches in alternating years and have 1/4 of lawmakers face election each year. Above all, cut the symbiotic ties between government and business that encourage and abet corruption and ethical conflicts. This is particularly important when the 'business' figures involved are members of Mafia-style organizations. Turkey's government is sliding toward autocracy, and the people need to exercise their rights as holders of sovereignty. Sen, Marco Rubio revealed the GOP's master plan to gut the middle class--after the tax cut for the rich, it plans to cut Social Security and Medicare.

Solution

The Republican tax plan must be seen for what it is: a reverse of Robin Hood's tenet of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. In this case it means cutting taxes on the wealthy and then meeting the rules of the so-called 'Paygo' law by stripping away funding for Social Security and Medicare. These are the actions of a plutocracy, not a democracy, and they point up the need for constitutional reform to ensure that mechanisms like separation of powers and checks and balances are not abused. The cure for bad democracy is more democracy, and the people must exercise their sovereignty to protect their rights. For the cost of cutting corporate income taxes, the US could provide universal pre-K and make tuition free at public colleges for non-affluent students.

Solution

The Republican party's agenda puts a premium on tax reform that comes at a cost to college students in the US. Education should beoffered free of charge for life, so the poor can rise up and class mobility will be a reality. College education has been shown to be the key driver in wage rises, and tuition-free college is the norm in several European countries. Students pay only 200-500 euros for registration fees. The US should introduce some of the advances achieved by the Global Village and its laws as part of a paradigm shift. To end North Korea's disruptive behavior and quest for nuclear weapons, the US and other nations should back Taiwan's Charter for Permanent Peace to lead China to democratize and end its support of Pyongyang. The world's democracies should back Taiwan's drive for constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. Lobster branded with Pepsi can ‘tattoo’ found by fishing crew

A lobster with the Pepsi logo imprinted on its claw has been discovered, sparking concern over the amount of debris littering the oceans. The creature was found by a lobster fishing crew off the coast of Grand Manan in New Brunswick, Canada. Karissa Lindstrand, who reportedly drinks 12 cans of Pepsi a day, spotted the lobster as it was loaded into crate to be banded.

Solution

The Ocean is a highly-sensitive environment. Climate change is already wreaking havoc in the form of melting ice and shrinking habitats for wildlife, and the major powers of the world have a responsibility to respect the need for preserving this vital part of the world. This includes implementing One World under One Set of Laws and giving international law precedence over domestic law. Trump just claimed China had 'no impact' on North Korea

President Donald Trump has dismissed China’s efforts to try and rein in the North Korean regime of Kim Jong-un, saying that a recent visit seemed to have “no impact” on the nuclear ambitions of Pyongyang.

Solution

North Korea is obviously being backed by a major power. The US, Japan and South Korea should support Taiwan's Charter for Permanent Peace to lead China to democratize, forcing North Korea to follow suit and drop its nuclear weapons program. As Emmanuel Kant once noted, 'The pursuit of permanent peace is the highest goal of reason and a moral obligation.' China claims to be a 'responsible major power' and as such should not enable North Korea's continued militarism.
