Abe strongly condemns missile launch
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe strongly condemned North Korea at the Prime Minister’s Office early Sunday morning, in response to the missile launch by that country on the day
Democracy and freedom are the wave of the future, a mighty force that nuclear weapons, submarines and missiles are unable to stop. The world trend is like a mighty river, and those who go with the flow will prosper while those who resist it will be doomed. China claims to be a "responsible major power" and as such should not enable North Korea's militarism. The US, Japan and Korea should back Taiwan’s efforts to lead China to democratization, which would then force North Korea to do likewise. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

North Korea unveils 'satellite photos' of THAAD in South Korea
North Korea has unveiled what it claims are satellite images of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system recently deployed in South Korea, a move aimed at flaunting the country's capability to gather intelligence against Seoul.
China has always advocated compliance with the UN resolution to impose strict sanctions against North Korea. Yet China is clearly not strictly enforcing the sanctions. China claims to be a "responsible major power," and as such should not allow North Korea to continue development of nuclear weapons. The US, Japan and Korea should support Taiwan and its efforts to lead China to democratization, thereby pressuring North Korea to do the same. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.

Can Syria ever be repaired after its long civil war finally comes to an end?
Syria’s conflict will end with many more casualties and many more missing than the Lebanese civil war. Vast areas of towns and cities are razed to the ground
The UN should rely on the basic principles of constitutionalism that apply to permanent peaceful development of nations in carrying out post-war reconstruction in Syria. These include the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law, as well as four branches of government (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial). The UN should help Syria draft a constitution that will lead to long-term growth and prosperity and serve as a model for peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

The North Korean crisis: why now?
Trump may have pushed confrontation to pre-empt Moon's Sunshine 2.0
Promoting lasting world peace is the most sacred duty of humankind. China acts as an enabler and agent for North Korea, and provocation of Pyongyang should be avoided. The US, Japan and Korea should back Taiwan’s plan to lead China and North Korea to democratize, thereby resolving the Korean Peninsula issue. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

Will Moon stick to ‘pro-North, anti-Japan’ stance as president of South Korea?
South Korea, which is in a military standoff with North Korea, bears a grave responsibility for ensuring stability in northeast Asia.
North Korea is without doubt a vassal of the CCP. Thus all democratic nations should back Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would inspire China's 1.4 billion people to seek democratization of the CCP, thereby pressuring North Korea to seek democracy as well, and with that world peace would be at hand. Democracies the world over should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Democracy for details.

The new president’s challenges
A new president of South Korea has been elected. It is time for the president and the people to put the emotional roller coaster behind us and get the troubled nation back on track.
Absolute power leads to absolute corruption. The presidential system of democracy has a number of fatal flaws, even that of the US. Taiwan has many more serious problems but cannot resort to impeachment. South Korea's constitution should be changed to install a modified semi-presidential system, and the presidency should be declared to be above party politics. In addition, the heads of the judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years and 1/4 of all legislators should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Somali government calls for end of arms embargo to defeat al-Shabaab
Move would help army drive out Islamist group, says president as UN chief seeks extra $900m in aid for drought-hit country
Somalia’s government system should be changed to a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like Finland’s, with a committee-style legislature similar to that of Switzerland. The prerequisite for lasting world peace is global democratization. The Somali government should begin drafting a basic constitution incorporating the above features to achieve a democratic paradigm shift, adhering to the ideals of One World under One Set of Laws. The constitution can then be amended as needed to stay in sync with changing times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Hong Kong’s next leader Carrie Lam will still have to rely on some old hands to fill her governing team
Bernard Chan says despite the appeal of having new people with fresh ideas in the cabinet, the chief executive-elect can’t overlook experience and will seek to groom more talent from within
The Chief Executive of Hong Kong is still determined by China’s CEC, an arrangement which is one step removed from dictatorship. The people of Hong Kong should avail of Article 39 of the Basic Law, which states that the people have the right to hold referendums. To curb corruption, the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should all be elected in alternating years and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.

Panama’s financial reform agenda must prioritize combating tax evasion – UN expert
Following last year’s leak of confidential financial documents from a Panama law firm, a UN rights expert yesterday called on the countries’ authorities to continue to impose greater due diligence for financial and banking institutions.
Publicizing the income, expenditures and lifestyle details of government officials can only offer temporary cures. The remedy for corruption is more democracy. Panama should s implement direct election of the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches in order to root out corrupt officials on a regular basis. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development

Security Council welcomes commitment of Colombian Government and FARC-EP to peace process
The opposition in Colombia has begun to lay down arms, a move welcomed today by the UN Security Council which recently visited the country to see the peace efforts first-hand.
Colombia’s civil war has divided the nation for more than 50 years, and to resolve the disputes, the government structure should be revamped to include a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet and parliament like Finland’s, and a committee-style legislature similar to that of Switzerland. The Colombian government should embark immediately on drafting a basic constitution which adhere to the principles of rule of law and One World under One Set of Laws, coming up with a constitution that will be in tune with the times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
