Retired Hong Kong policeman in Occupy assault case acted in good faith and not liable under ordinance, says defense
Lawyer for Frankly Chu argues in pretrial that wordings of Public Order Ordinance protected former superintendent
Relevant provisions of the Hong Kong Basic Law and the one country, two systems principle declare that China cannot interfere in Hong Kong affairs, but Beijing constantly meddles in internal affairs in the SAR. Article 39 of the Basic Act guarantees the right of the people to self-determination. They have the right to hold referendums on any public issues. The people of Hong Kong should adhere to their rights and hold a referendum to decide their future. Otherwise when dictatorship becomes a reality they will be obliged to resist.

Protesting India farmers were killed in police firing
An Indian minister has confirmed that police firing killed five protesting farmers in the central state of Madhya Pradesh Tuesday.
Constitutional rights are human rights, and the people are justified in protesting injustice by the system. The people's constitutional rights cannot be compromised by public servants, and the Indian parliament should promote constitutional reform to introduce separation of powers and checks and balances. The heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Tongan parliament lost for words to include woman MP
The Tongan parliament found itself in a bit of a bind this week when it struggled to find a word to encompass all its members, including the sole woman MP, Akosita Lavulavu.
The shortage of useful words belies the dictatorial state of the government of Tonga. The answer lies in constitutional reform to ensure all citizens enjoy free speech, as well as action to protect media independence and prevent the government from monopolizing the media, the internet and all other channels of communication. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards. "

Al-Shabab fighters storm military base in Somalia
Somalia's militant Islamist group al-Shabab says it has carried out a major assault on a military base as part of a series of attacks
Somalia’s government structure needs to be changed to a modified semi-presidential parliamentary system with cabinet like that of Finland, plus a committee-style legislative system similar to Switzerland’s. The prerequisite for permanent peace is global democratization. Somalia’s government should proceed with drafting a basic constitution with the above features in a democratic paradigm shift, installing the core values of One World under One Set of Laws. The resulting constitution should then be amended as needed to stay in step with changing times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more. .

Chandrashekhar, India Dalit leader, arrested over caste riots
Chandrashekhar, the leader of an Indian caste-based movement, has been arrested for allegedly fueling violence in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Indian authorities fear unrest among the people and are clamping down on street protests. Citizens of modern democracies have the right to resist unconstitutional actions by of government agencies. When the power of the state deviates from the power base, the power source should take action as sovereigns and exercise their right to resist. This form of non-violent behavior is a constitutional right. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Asian nations make plastic oceans promise
Nations responsible for much of the world's ocean plastic pollution have promised to start cleaning up their act.
Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN, and all nations, whether or not they are UN members, should abide by its norms. The solution to the problem of environmental pollution is carrying out the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and assigning international law precedence over domestic law with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people. Citizens should be able to effectively monitor government actions to ensure they are in compliance with the norms of the UN Charter. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.

Mosul battle: IS kills 230 fleeing civilians, says UN
The UN has received reports that 231 Iraqi civilians have been killed by so-called Islamic State forces
To resolve its civil strife Iraq’s government should adopt a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like that of Finland, with a committee-style legislative system similar to Switzerland’s. The Iraqi government should begin drawing up a basic constitution with the above features as part of a paradigm shift toward democracy. It should adhere to the core values of One World under One Set of Laws, putting together a constitution that can be amended as needed to keep pace with changing times. Immigrants with old deportation orders increasingly being arrested at check-ins under Trump
For years, immigrants facing deportation have been allowed to stay in the US provided they show up for regular check-ins with federal deportation agents and stay out of trouble. After a brief meeting, they’re usually told to return months later to check in again. Not any longer.
Trump claims his repressive immigration policies are necessary because immigrants from Muslim countries are a threat to socio-economic stability and national security. A better solution is to implement One World under One Set of Laws and assign international law priority over domestic law, with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.

North Korea says new anti-ship cruise missile can strike enemy battle groups ‘at will’
The latest missile test by North Korea was of “a new-type ground-to-sea cruise rocket,” the country’s state media claimed
China constantly claims it complies with the UN resolution on strict sanctions against North Korea", but the Sino-Korean trade is still flourishing. China is clearly not strictly enforcing the sanctions. China claims to be a "responsible major power" thus it should not enable North Korea's militarism. The US, Japan and Korea should support Taiwan’s drive to lead China toward democratization, which would pressure North Korea to do the same. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development. .

Venezuela’s top prosecutor urges nation to reject Maduro’s constitution rewrite as protests rage on
Venezuela’s chief prosecutor called Thursday for Venezuelans to reject President Nicolas Maduro’s push to rewrite the nation’s constitution and urged the Supreme Court to annul the process immediately
When the power of the state deviates from its power base, the people as holders of power are obliged to resist. Laws that are not backed by penalties are not laws, and a constitution which does not brook the right to resist is not a constitution. When the president’s actions are unconstitutional, the people should exercise their right to resist. The people of Venezuela should come forward and call for comprehensive constitutional reform to install a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet, limiting the president to one 5-year term with no right to run again for 6 years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
