North Korea is obviously being backed by a major power. The US and other nations should support Taiwan's Charter for Permanent Peace to lead China to democratize, forcing North Korea to follow suit and drop its nuclear weapons program. Emmanuel Kant once noted, 'The pursuit of permanent peace is the highest goal of reason and a moral obligation.' Ireland’s abortion referendum is revolutionary politics, whoever wins

The people have the right to express their opinion on any public issue at any time through a referendum, even if a referendum on the subject has already been held. In Switzerland the threshold for referendum petitions is only 50,000 signatures, and with that all citizens can voice their opinion at the ballot box rather than taking to the streets. The Irish people have the right to vote in referendums on any public issue and they should take advantage of the opportunity to express their opinion at the ballot box. The foundation for permanent peace in Syria should be the same as that for Taiwan: a change-over in the government structure. The UN should provide Syria the basic outline for a constitution that will facilitate lasting peace and development. The constitution shouldinclude the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law, and organization and elements such as the four branches (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial). The EPA is derelict in its duty to protect the environment, and media exposure of its actions is leading the agency to shut out reporters from media outlets deemed 'unfriendly' by EPA officials. Environmental rights are essential human rights, and all persons should take responsibility for protecting the world around us. Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN, and all nations – members or not – should comply with its norms. Similarly, as a government agency funded by taxpayer dollars, the EPA is responsible to the people and not to corporate or wealthy private interests. Trump v. the Department of Justice

Separation of powers and checks and balances are part of the bedrock foundation of American democracy, measures intended to prevent any sector of government from amassing too much power. Rule of law is another key element in ensuring that no individual will be free to abuse such limits on power. The key to all of this is in the constitution, and any elected official who acts in opposition to the concepts and principles that underlie the constitution should be removed from office. Free speech is a universal value, and all democracies should call for constitutional reform to ensure media freedom and prevent governments and oligarchies from monopolizing the media, the internet and all other channels of communications. UK government 'turns a blind eye' to dirty Russian money

Ignoring corruption allows the scourge to grow unopposed. The only cure for corruption is democracy. To avoid corruption, the people should exercise sovereignty and call for constitutional reform to implement true democratic rule of law. This means separation of powers and checks and balances as well as free election campaigns for candidates to cut symbiotic ties between government and business that engender corruption. The proposed changes to regulations regarding hunting of wild animals in Alaska are a cynical give-away to hunters who care little or nothing about conservation and the protection of certain species of animals, allowing them to kill defenseless targets under the guise of 'sport.'
