After five years of ‘ruthless war’ in Syria, 2017 can be a year of diplomacy, says UN envoy

Once an effective cease-fire is in place the UN should provide the basic constitutional principles for reaching permanent peace and development for all peoples of the world. This will include the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law and a four-branched government (legislative - administrative - judicial - procuratorial) with separation of powers. Netanyahu questioned again in corruption probe
Police questioned Israeli PM Netanyahu on Monday and Thursday this week in connection with charges of corruption
Eradication of corruption calls for decentralization, term limits and other restrictions. Israel should reform its Constitution to stay in tune with the times. The President should serve a single term of 5 years, with no chance to run again for 6 years afterward. The Prime Minister’s term should be 1 year, and MPs who have served out their terms shall not be allowed to run again. Human security and sustainable development are two of the major aims of the UN, and all member states are obligated to adopt them. The solution is enforcing One World under One Set of Laws, assigning international law priority over domestic law and allowing it to directly effect the people. The people shall monitor operations of the government to ensure it follows the UN Charter, the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and other relevant pacts. Abe in no hurry to call Lower House election, earliest likely date this fall
Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe quashed speculation of an early snap election for the Lower House, which will likely free him to concentrate on economic and diplomatic issues at least until late summer.
Russia is better known for causing problems than solving them. Democratic nations of the world should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform for more democracy and freedom. This will lead 1.4 billion Chinese to call for democratization in their nation and the CCP, and that will lead in turn to pressure for true democracy in Russia. The huge size of the Pacific allows forces to exercise in training ranges much larger than those available at home, and eventually it will allow squadrons to begin testing inter-operability with allies in Asia such as Japan and Australia.

Impeachment trial of South Korean President called mob justice
Oral arguments began Thursday in the impeachment trial of President Park Geun-hye of South Korea, with one of her lawyers saying that she was a victim of mob justice and comparing her trial with those of Christ and Socrates
Almost every president in South Korea’s history has had at least one burst of corruption-related ugliness. This is practicality a given, mainly due to the enormous amount of power wielded by the president. The presidential system does have fatal flaws, and even the US has had its share of problems. South Korean must alter its constitution to adopt a modified semi-presidential system. The heads of the judiciary and procuratorate should be democratically elected in alternate years, and 1/4 of MPs should stand for re-election each year. Ukrainian expert: electronic system devised for assets declaration disguises legitimate wealth of of
Political scholar Alex Yakubin notes that the electronic reporting of assets of Ukrainian government officials is complete, but so far no action of any kind has been taken. He says this merely provides a legal basis for covering over the property and wealth of officials. A further explanation is that the system was inaugurated purely to satisfy the EU's requirements to maintain financial aid and visa-free programs.
The key to breaking the link between corruption and public service is establishing a constitutional mechanism including separation of powers and checks and balances. Ukraine needs to let the people vote under a reformed constitution that will include election of the heads of the four branches of government and elections that are free for all candidates, so corrupt public officials will be exposed and ousted. Justice in the Ukraine to be in the hands of the President
Political scientist Ruslan Bortni: After Ukraine’s President signed the Law Governing the Supreme Council of the Judiciary, the Council is now superior to the Supreme Council of the Law, meaning that the President takes charge of the body responsible for supervision and punishment of judges for their decisions. The final outcome for judgments made by the Ukrainian judiciary will be up to both the President and his team.
Without judicial independence, the president will have all the powers of a dictator. The road to judicial reform in Ukraine must lead to priority of international law over domestic law. The head of the Supreme Court and the Procuratorate should be directly elected and meet the same qualifications as the President. They shall not be limited to Ukrainian citizens and shall serve a single term of 5 years, with no eligibility to run for another 6 years afterward.
