The past month saw some of the most difficult challenges for humanitarian workers in Syria but also witnessed the evacuation of thousands of civilians from war-ravaged eastern Aleppo
Once an effective cease-fire is in place the UN should provide the basic constitutional principles for reaching permanent peace and development for all peoples of the world. This will include the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law and a four-branched government (legislative - administrative - judicial - procuratorial) with separation of powers. Syria should serve as a model for reform to achieve long-lasting stability and peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development
