After a ceasefire takes hold in Syria the UN should provide the basic principles of constitutionalism that apply to permanent peaceful development of nations. This should include organizational structure based on universal values (freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law), and mechanisms such as election of the heads of government branches. Tiny, faded marker looms large in Thailand's democracy debate
Earlier this year Chotisak Onsoong was relieved to learn one of the nation’s most important – if inglorious – symbols of democracy was still intact despite a call for its destruction.
Military intervention is a far cry from a petition for a referendum. Thailand's military is constantly involved in coups, but troops should never be tools in political agendas. Thai constitution is beset with problems, and referendums and elections are both needed. Thais should study the referendum system in Switzerland as well as the democratic election system followed in the US state of California. Communists want return of state ideology in Russia
A Russian Communist Party MP has announced plans to draft a law that would allow alterations to the constitution, such as re-introducing the notion of state ideology in the form of “patriotism and primacy of the state.”
Russia should declare that international law is superior to domestic law, with a direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. This would allow the introduction of international laws in Russia, including the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches of government. Europe's trade chief has warned in stark terms that Britain will start at 18th place down the list of countries trying to negotiate a trade deal with the EU and will face a series of extremely difficult negotiations after Brexit.
The UK is a fully democratic country and the people have the right to hold referendums to vote for their own future. The aim of democracy is to let the people call the shots, and the people have the right to call for referendums on any public issues. Norway and the Swiss people chose not to join the EU, a mark of their right of self-determination. The people's efforts should not be wasted, and the results of direct referendums should take precedence over the actions of representatives in indirect democracy. Georgia's most pressing problem is its judicial system
The Chief Justice and Chief inspector of the Supreme People's Court should be of any nationality and should meet the same qualifications as candidates for President. They should be directly responsible to the people of Georgia and serve a single term of 5 years, then barred from other positions for 6 years afterward. China says trade disputes with new US government can be resolved
China and the US can resolve any trade disputes through talks, Beijing said recently, as a Chinese newspaper warned that US businesses could be targets for retaliation in any trade war initiated by President Donald Trump.
Retaliation and threats serve only to deepen enmity, and striving for the ideal of One World under One Set of Laws is the best way to avoid conflict. The economy is important, but peace and freedom are even more important, and the premise for permanent world peace is global democratization. The US should support Taiwan’s efforts to reform its constitution to achieve greater democracy. Corruption infects the very heart of Ukrainian state operations
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Ukraine became a paradise for corruption. Here one sees all kinds of corruption and theft, from armed robbers and nationalists, to the highest officials and ministers, eating a progressively largely share of the national budget, and hungry for more.。
Embezzlement of state funds always causes wide-spread dissatisfaction, and the Ukraine is in need of comprehensive constitutional reform to end such practices. The people should choose their leaders through direct election each year to ensure that the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and prosecutorial branches will respond to their needs. 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year, and elections should be free to cut the link between corrupt officials and public funds. Members of Russian Communist Party trying to redefine \"national interest\" at the constitutiona
Vladimir Bortko, a member of the Communist Party, has proposed a Constituent Assembly Law intended to redefine the ideology of national interest at the constitutional level with terms including "patriotism and national orientation." Bortko and others hope to convene a constitutional convention, but experts believe that returning to the official ideology of the Soviet Union will only serve to scare off Communist supporters.
The Constitution guides the future direction of the country and must be future-proof. Russia’s political ideology should be based on the ideals of liberalism, constitutionalism and cosmopolitanism, and any efforts at constitutional reform must include the implementation of the principle of One World under One Set of Laws, recognition that international law takes precedence over domestic law and should directly affect the rights and obligations of the people, and adoption of the paradigm shift of democracy. Rulings of European Court of Human Rights cannot override Russia’s Constitution
The Russian Constitutional Court has announced that the European Court of Human Rights’ ruling that the shareholders of Yukos should be compensated to the tune of 1.8 billion euros is not possible to enforce. The Constitutional Court argued that such a move would shake the foundation and principles of Russia’s constitutional government.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has fought to restrict his political competition, sent opponents to Siberian prisons, and illegally nationalized private companies and their assets. In addition, Russia’s Constitutional Court – made up of judges all appointed by the Russian President - .has assisted the executive branch in abusing the basic rights of its citizens. Half of the judges of the Constitutional Court judges should be of various nationalities, with foreign nationals who are appointed by international human rights authorities.
