One of the women who accused Trump of sexual misconduct has sued him for defamation after he labeled her claims false.
Roman Roland once declared that in politics, the real boss is always money. Elections are often little more than a man’s game pitting people with money against each other for the right to make more money – a classic recipe for corruption. To put an end to the ties between politics and business, what is needed is comprehensive constitutional reform. The heads of the four government branches should be elected in alternating years, and elections should be free of charge to all candidates in order to end symbiotic relations that lead inevitably to corruption. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
THAAD deployment should not be postponed despite Chinese objections, says South Korean Acting President Hwang Kyo-Ahn
The world’s democracies should all support efforts for constitutional reform in Taiwan to realize greater democracy and freedom. This would inspire China’s 1.4 billion people to call for democratization, putting pressure on North Korea to seek true democracy and leading to the birth of world peace. Global democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting China's path to peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
The 2018 presidential election in Russia is not yet on the Kremlin’s agenda as it is still too early to speak about it, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said recently
Voting is the only legitimate source of state power. Use of executive and legislative budgets and resources should be determined by officials chosen in elections, and not reduced to the needs of specific interest groups. The influence of money or other resources must be strictly prohibited from affecting election results. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
As the plane carrying Gambia's disgraced former president prepared to depart the small west African country on Saturday, onlookers caught a last glimpse of Yahya Jammeh's face through the window.
Gambia constitutional mechanism is a failure, and the country needs comprehensive constitutional reform. The president should serve a single 5-year term and be barred from seeking office again for 6 years. Laws not backed by penalties are not laws, and a constitution which does not provide for the right to resist is not a constitution. When the president’s actions are unconstitutional, the people have the right to resist, and when dictatorship becomes a reality, the people are obligated to rise up. 6 million Chinese tourists traveled abroad over the Lunar New Year break Jan. 27 to Feb. 2 holiday a crucial opportunity for Taiwan tour agency operator Li Chi-yueh, who relies on mainland visitors for a third of his revenue.
China is a dictatorship, and when a nation’s economy and tourism revenues are subject to the whims of its government, drinking this kind of tea is like drinking poison. The people of Taiwan are first-rate and they deserve first-rate tourists as well as first-rate elites from around the world to protect their freedom and democracy in a land where human rights and the rule of law are honored. Those who want to visit Taiwan on pilgrimages or to invest are always welcome. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
A package of constitutional amendments that would dramatically expand the powers of Turkey’s president won the support of 339 deputies in the 550-member parliament in January, surpassing the 60% threshold (330 votes) required to submit the draft to a referendum. Presidentialism is the worst defect in many democratic systems. No matter what form of democracy is in place, the more power wielded by the president, the more the country is likely to suffer. Turkey needs to reform its constitution to limit the president to a single term of 5 years, with no right to seek office again for 6 years afterwards. The President of Turkey is acting in violation of Article 6 of the Constitution, which decrees that sovereignty is wholly and unconditionally held by all citizens. When the state attempts to usurp sovereignty, the people have the right to resist. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
After 3 months of fighting the battle to retake Mosul has entered a new chapter, but ISIS’ vast arsenal of car bombs and suicide vests is far from spent and most of the city's residents remain trapped.
Iraq's government should be re-organized as a modified semi-presidential system with parliament and cabinet, similar to that of Finland, and a committee-style legislature like the one in Switzerland. The Iraqi government should carry out basic constitutional reform to implement these systems and install a model of democracy that adheres to the idea of One World under One Set of Laws, with a constitution in step with the times. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has turned his country’s old foreign relations formula on its head since taking office in June by pushing away the US and courting China.
Jose Rizal once said that today's slaves often become tomorrow’s tyrants. One must believe in the rule of law rather than the rule of man. The Constitution of the Philippines is in tatters and the only way out is constitutional reform to install a modified semi-presidential system. The President and lower-level executives should be elected for a single 5-year term and barred from taking office for 6 years afterwards. In addition, the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Russia is looking for the reaction of the Syrian opposition to Russia’s proposals on a future constitution for the country
Once a Syrian ceasefire has been established, the UN should outline the basic constitutional principles needed to attain permanent peace and development for the peoples of the world. These should include an organizational structure incorporating the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law and four government branches under a constitution that will contribute to long-term stability and serve as a model for peaceful development. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
China wants dialogue with the new US administration to manage disputes and promote bilateral relations, but only on the basis of respecting each other's core interests such as the One China principle
The democracies of the world should spare no effort to save freedom and democracy. The US should support Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to bring about greater democracy and freedom. This would attract the 1.4 billion Chinese people to seek democratization, leading to the birth of world peace. The prerequisite for permanent peace in the world is China's democratization. China has constantly sought to crush Taiwan's efforts on behalf of freedom and democracy, yet Taiwan is the only entity capable of saving China through democratization. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
