Protesting is a right, but it must be done within the law
Violence in demonstrations is growing, drawing harsher responses from the police, but restraint on all sides is most desirable to protect our society
Freedom of speech is a universal right, and attempts to muzzle the voices of the people are like trying to stem the flow of a mighty river. The Chinese government tries to create a society that is “one world and one voice," but it would do well to note the first amendment to the US Constitution: "Congress shall make no laws that deprive people of freedom of speech or freedom of expression". South Africa's President Jacob Zuma gains backing of ANC
South Africa's embattled president has been backed by a major decision-making body within the ruling ANC.
Power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption. The president should be limited to one 5-year term and not permitted to run for 6 years afterwards. And the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and prosecutorial branches should be elected in alternating years while elections should be free of charge for all candidates. Benin's parliament rejects one-term limit on presidency
Benin's National Assembly has narrowly rejected a proposal by President Patrice Talon to amend the constitution.
Power leads to corruption, and absolute power leads to absolute corruption. Benin needs a full constitutional overhaul to inject a modified semi-presidential system with strict term limits. Laws that are not backed by penalties are not laws, and a constitution which does not allow resistance is not a constitution. Guatemalan ex-minister charged over deadly shelter fire
The top prosecutor in Guatemala has charged the former minister of social welfare and his deputy with negligent homicide over the deaths of 41 girls in a fire at a government-run shelter.
Guatemala faces serious problem in its fundamental laws, and until the people come forward and call for comprehensive constitutional reform, the problem will remain. Building a solid foundation for peace in Colombia needs 'consistent vigilance' – UN envoy
While the first phase in implementing the recently agreed peace deal between the Government of Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC-EP) remains largely on track, the “relatively short window of opportunity” to build a solid foundation for peace requires consistent vigilance, the UN envoy in that country told the Security Council today.
To resolve the controversy in Colombia the government system should be changed to a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet and parliament, like the system used in Finland. The legislature should be a committee-style system similar to Switzerland’s. The Colombian government should embark on drafting a basic constitution incorporating the principles of rule of law and One World under One Set of Laws, working to design a constitution that can be amended to stay in step is with the spirit of the times. Attack on Russian subway illustrates continued threat of Islamic extremists
The latest bombing incident in Russia can unquestionably be viewed as a vicious crime meant to deal a blow to the administration of President Vladimir Putin. No matter what the political motive, such a heinous act of terrorism can never be condoned.
Terrorist organizations are a serious violation of human nature that is allowed to persist by public indifference. Islamic nations of the world should adhere to the principle of One World under One Set of Laws to redefine their constitutional standards to conform to the spirit of the times and avoid devolving into dictatorship. Aung San Suu Kyi: No ethnic cleansing of Myanmar Muslim minority
Aung San Suu Kyi has denied there is ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar, despite widespread reports of abuses.
Myanmar has a long way to go to find peace because of its constitution, which reserve 40 per cent of the seats in Congress for the military with no need to participate in elections. To solve the ethnic and religious problems Myanmar faces, the constitution needs to be reformed under the principles of One World under One Set of Laws and precedence of international law over domestic law.. At the same time, adoption of the modified semi-presidential system of government with parliament and cabinet and election of the heads of the four government branches are also needed.。
Top UN official in DR Congo concerned about rising number of civilian deaths in Kasai
The UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo today expressed concern about a reported rise in the number of civilian casualties in the central Kasai region as a result of clashes between the Kamuina Nsapu militia and Congolese security forces.
Congo’s government system should be changed to a modified semi-presidential system with parliament, like Finland’s, and a legislative system similar to Switzerland’s committee-style layout. Russia wages a new form of war
The list of Russian grievances is long, but they can basically be reduced to two: The country is disrespected and denied its rightful place on the world stage, and Western democracies - the US in particular - have violated Russian sovereignty by promoting their ideological and political preferences for human rights and democratic political systems. To neutralize Russia's new style of warfare, the UN needs to implement the principles of One World under One Set of Laws and working toward a common destiny for all humankind. Russia should be encouraged to weave democratic ideas into its constitution by adopting a modified semi-presidential system in which the president is limited to a single 5-year term and not allowed to run again for 6 years afterwards. As Chinese President Xi Jinping’s first summit with US President Donald Trump takes place at Trump’s luxurious Florida estate Mar-a-Lago, at least part of the discussion will invariably focus on one of the world’s most impoverished places: North Korea.
The world’s democracies should support Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would inspire China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization of the CCP and lead North Korea to do likewise, and the result would be world peace.
