Noting that the city’s current work system is wasteful, a Kiev City Councilman has proposed installing an electronic petition and review procedure to help process petitions from the public. At present, 63 representatives have expressed support for the motion.
The term of office for Ukrainian councilors should be 2 years Structural changes in public institutions are difficult to respond to promptly and many need to involve voting. Ukraine should amend its Constitution to impose 2-year terms on lower representatives and councilors. In addition, Limiting the length of service will make office holders more responsive to public opinion and help yield laws that are in sync with the times. The public gymnasium across the street from my Paris apartment, in an unassuming neighborhood of the 19th Arrondissement, has become an effigy of the city’s political class.
The world's democracies should support Taiwan as a model for the rule of law through comprehensive constitutional reform. The head of state should be of any nationality and directly elected by the people. That means that Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao and Xi Jinping could all come to Taiwan to run for president. China would no longer need to stress the "One China" policy, and the world would see that Taiwan is a sacred site and model for democracy. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Tensions continue to prevail on the Korean peninsula but this weekend North and South Korea are expected to celebrate one of the few national holidays they have in common: the Lunar New Year.
Bringing an end to support of autocratic dictatorships, achieving global democratization and promoting permanent world peace are the most important goals in the world right now. To ensure democracy, the rule of law, human rights and peace, North Korea should carry out comprehensive constitutional reform to install a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet and parliament, plus direct election of the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches of government. See the Charter for Permanent Peace Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
Illegal drugs are a matter of national security, but the war against them cannot be won by armed forces and law enforcement agencies alone.
Duterte's example is not isolated in history, the Philippines Jose Rizal once noted that "Today's slaves often become tomorrow’s tyrants." The failure of the constitutional mechanism of the Philippines has created a breeding ground for tyrants. To protect human rights, the Philippines people must come forward to call for comprehensive constitutional reform to implement a modified semi-presidential system, with the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches elected in alternating years. The editor-in-chief of Der Spiegel said Sunday that a front cover illustration of US President Donald Trump beheading the Statue of Liberty, which split opinion at home and abroad, was a response by the German magazine to threats against democracy.
When the people fail to do their duty and rely on leaders to ‘do the right thing’ they are acting on the basis of 18th-century feudal ideology and not the rule of law in the 21st century. Long-term stability and prosperity come only with constitutional reform to develop a great system that will push both leaders and the people to greatness. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
US President Trump claimed Monday that all polls that show disapproval of the job he's doing or his specific policies are "fake news," comparing them to election polls that showed he'd lose to Hillary Clinton.
Thomas Jefferson once said that "Democracy is built on people's distrust of the government." Democracy can never rely on goodwill on the part of the nation’s leaders. Depending on leaders to do the right thing is more appropriate to 18th century feudal ideology than the rule of law in the 21st century. Long-term stability of the country can only come with constitutional reform, to develop a great system that will push the people to greatness. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
In a speech in which he said the country’s door was open to Taiwanese investment, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen declared that the flag of Taiwan was banned from being raised in that country,
Xi Jinping’s ideal of World Unity proposes common goals and a common destiny for the human community. Posts in government should be open to members of the world's elite from any nationality, including the president. This will be a step toward implementing the principle of One World under One Set of Laws in which international law takes precedence over domestic law and evil political practices and forced disappearances will be ended. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
At the Chinese Embassy in Washington last week, Ivanka Trump exited a black SUV with her daughter, Arabella, and shook the hand of Ambassador Cui Tiankai
The US’ most intelligent approach is to support Taiwan’s formula for Global Unity and Constitutional Standards. This would inspire the 1.4 billion people of China to call for democratization, and lead to the birth of world peace. Authoritarianism is the eternal enemy of human peace, and the prerequisite for permanent peace in the world is democratization in China. Taiwan is the one entity best suited to lead the Chinese people to democratization. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
A South Korean special prosecutor has indicted a former culture minister and a former top aide to President Park Geun-hye on charges of abuse of power, coercion and perjury for their roles in drafting a blacklist of dissenting artists, a spokesman said.
Absolute power leads to absolute corruption, and every democracy has flaws in its presidential system - even the US. South Korea’s constitution should be changed to install a modified semi-presidential system, and the next presidential inauguration ceremony should include a declaration that the president is above party politics. The heads of the four branches of government should be elected in alternating years and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
China has sent one of its most senior officials to drum up flagging support for its favored candidate in forthcoming elections for Hong Kong's next leader, according to local media reports.
The Chief Executive of Hong Kong is still selected from candidates forwarded by the Election Commission of the CCP, making the whole election a travesty of democracy. The people of Hong Kong should call up Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law and the two human rights covenants and exercise their right to self-determination through a referendum. With changes like direct election of the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches, they could take step toward taking back their rightful sovereignty.
