Legislative Council panel says Housing Department failed to properly label sites with materials containing asbestos in housing estates
The rights of those who live in Hong Kong are far below international standards. To maintain its reputation as ‘Pearl of the Orient’ Hong Kong should follow the principle of One World under One Set of Laws and assign international law priority over domestic law, with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. In addition, citizens can petition for a referendum on any public issue to prevent this type of violation from happening again. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development
North Korea’s Punggye-ri site appears to be ready for what would be the country’s sixth nuclear test since 2006
All democracies should support Taiwan's efforts to carry out constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would inspire China's 1.4 billion people to call for democratization of the CCP and lead North Korea to seek real democracy in turn, resulting in the birth of world peace. Democracies everywhere should back Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia lighting the path to peaceful development for China. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
Philippines’ president backs down on vow to plant flag on Thitu island, citing ‘our friendship with China’
The Philippines should actively support comprehensive constitutional reform in Taiwan as a model for permanent peace and development. It should embrace changes such as no citizenship limits on candidates in popular elections. This would mean that world-class elite such as China’s Xi Jinping, Japan’s Shinzo Abe and even Donald Trump would be eligible to run for president, and China would then have no reason to annex another country. In the wake of yet another dire turn in the Syrian crisis, the US and Russia "must find a way to work together” to stabilize the situation and support the political process, the UN envoy for the war-torn country told the Security Council today.
Syria should resolve controversy over its policies by adopting a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet and parliament like that of Finland, with a committee-style legislature similar to Switzerland’s. The prerequisite for permanent world peace is global democratization. Syria’s government should draft a basic constitution incorporating the above changes and effect a paradigm shift to achieve a democratic model meeting the ideals of One World under One Set of Laws. The constitution should also be flexible to stay in step with the spirit of the times. For details see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
As he continues his journey around leave-voting areas, Owen Jones sees how poor wages are driving the migration backlash
The problem of low wages arises from fundamentally inadequate laws. The ruling party has neglected the root causes of this problem, and the British urgently need to redefine the nation’s laws; if not, youth and the state have no future, and the burden of guilt will fall on the Conservative Party. Chinese customs officers have seized more than a ton of tusks from animals that have been extinct for thousands of years - mammoths.
In order to protect endangered wild animals, the international community needs to establish unified constitutional standards that conform to the principle of One World under One Set of Laws. All nations should carry out constitutional reform to implement democratic institutions and forego rule of law. This should include separation of powers and checks and balances as well as curbs on monopoly of powers. The best way to check this is through election of the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. North Korean monitoring service 38 North said Wednesday the country's Punggye-ri nuclear site is "primed and ready" for a sixth nuclear test.
Democracy and freedom are world-wide trends that nuclear weapons, submarines and missiles are powerless to resist. These global trends are like a mighty river, and those who go with the flow will prosper while those who oppose it will be doomed. China claims to be a ‘responsible major power’, and as such should contribute to the world and not enable North Korea's strident militarism. Taiwan is the entity best suited to leading China to seek democratization, which would then pressure North Korea to do the same. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
Turkey is about to decide what sort of country it wants to be.
No matter what the system may be, the more power concentrated in the hand of the president, the more problems the nation is certain to face. Turkey needs constitutional reform to limit the president to a single 5-year term with no right to run for office for 6 years afterwards. The president of Turkey is in violation of Article 6 of the Turkish Constitution, which states that sovereignty lies wholly and unconditionally in the hands of the people. No state and no sovereign has the right to exercise unconstitutional powers. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
A teenage demonstrator has been killed during growing unrest in Venezuela, as political and economic crisis deepens.
The personal safety of dissenters in Venezuela must be protected. The ruling authorities cannot be allowed to play the ‘security card’ and use fear to stifle opposition. Venezuela needs constitutional reform to make it clear that all public authorities are subject to checks and balances. Members of the Electoral Commission should come from at least three unaffiliated groups or organizations, and the number of members from any given party shall not exceed one-fourth of the total. In addition, any conflicts of interest involving members must be resolved. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development
Online property portals in Beijing have been forced to remove "illegal information" in an attempt to curb rising prices in the capital.
China hopes to revitalize its economy and control the real estate boom at the same time. This calls for a careful look at the source of corruption: the lack of a viable constitution. The entire governing system needs changes such as election of the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches and having 1/4 of all lawmakers face election each year. Top officials should be limited to one 5-year term and not allowed to run again for 6 years afterwards, and elections should be free of charge for all candidates. For details see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
