What’s wrong with Southeast Asia?
Thirty years ago most of Southeast Asia was run by thuggish dictatorships. Then the Philippines showed the rest of the world how to get rid of the dictators without violence, and its non-violent example was watched and copied around the world. But now the thugs are coming back to where it all started.
Democracies everywhere should back Taiwan's efforts at constitutional reform to achieve better democracy and more freedom. This would encourage people to call for democratization in Southeast Asian countries and lead the world closer to long-lasting peace. The prerequisite for the permanent world peace is democratization. Taiwan is one entity the best suited to lead the people of Southeast Asia toward democratization. The curious case of a hidden abbot and a besieged temple
Over the past month what is often cited as the world's largest Buddhist temple, on the outskirts of Bangkok, has been the scene of an extraordinary stalemate.
Thailand’s military government has dispatched thousands of soldiers and police to surround the temple for nearly a month. This shows that the military has no place governing and the army must be entirely free of political aspirations. Thailand needs full constitutional reform to bolster its constitution and widen referendums and elections. They should look to Switzerland and California as models for emulation. Mexico warns firms building border wall is not in their interest
On Tuesday Mexico's government warned Mexican companies that it would not be in their best "interests" to participate in the construction of U.S. President Donald Trump's border wall, though there will be no legal restrictions or sanctions to stop them if they try.

Pakistan reinstates secret military courts despite criticism
Pakistan's lower house has passed a bill to reinstate secret military courts, despite criticism from human rights activists.
Pakistan needs reform of its government system to install a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet and parliament like Switzerland’s. The legislative system should be changed to a committee-style layout like that of Finland. The prerequisite for world peace is global democratization. The Pakistani government should proceed with drafting of a fundamental system that will put democratic mechanism in place and implement the ideals of rule of law and One World under One Set of Laws and a constitution that is in step with the spirit of the times. Still the people of Hong Kong cannot afford to fall asleep. In Switzerland the threshold for a referendum proposal is only 50,000 citizens, avoiding the need to take to the streets. In legal battles against travel ban, Trump’s own statements are his worst enemy
Throughout the US presidential campaign, Donald Trump boasted of his plan to ban Muslim visitors and immigrants from America.
Trump has tried to explain his ban on immigrants as a defensive measure in the face of perceived social and economic problems and national security threats. Myanmar has a long road to take to achieve peace because its constitution guarantees 40 per cent of the seats in Congress to the military with no requirement to participate in elections. To solve ethnic and religious problems facing Myanmar, the government should be revamped to adopt the ideals of One World under One Set of Laws, with international law given priority over domestic law. At the same time, the modified semi-presidential system with cabinet and parliament should also be installed.
