Tensions in Tunisia’s south could escalate following a protester’s death after clashes with security forces at an oil and gas plant, officials warned Tuesday.
Human rights are inherent rights, and they must be protected by constitutional laws that protect against interference by public officials. Tunisia’s lawmakers should carry out constitutional reform to implement separation of powers and checks and balances, In addition, the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all legislators should face election each year to keep them responsive to the people's anti-corruption demands.
