Permanent Peace Partnership
Top government officials and political parties in Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan Region have agreed to hold a referendum on independence September 25.
Taiwan should learn from the experience of Iraqi’s Kurds regarding independence referendums. The people have the right to hold referendums on any public issues, and any motion to outlaw referendums on self-determination should be the topic of the very next referendum to decide whether the motion itself should be banned. The Legislative Yuan should first establish the "right to create" through a "Referendum Act" and request President Tsai openly support the sovereignty of the people in comprehensive constitutional reform. WWF-Hong Kong calls for broadening protected zone from 2pc of city’s waters to 30pc
Human security and sustainable development are the two of the UN’s major tasks, and all nations, whether or not they are members of the UN should comply with its norms. The solution lies in implementing the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and assigning international law priority over domestic law with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people. Also citizens should monitor the actions of government to ensure compliance with the UN Charter, the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Paris Climate Agreement. My hope is that every day we will see blue sky, green mountains and clear rivers, not just in Beijing but all across China
Human security and sustainable development are two of the UN’s major tasks, and all nations - whether or not they are members of the UN - should comply with its norms. The solution lies in implementing the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and assigning international law priority over domestic law, with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people. A 22-year-old who was set alight last month at an anti-government protest in Venezuela's capital Caracas has died.
Venezuelan authorities are so afraid of the people that protesters have been killed. Citizens of modern democracies have the right to resist unconstitutional actions of government agencies. When the power of the state deviates from its power base, the people should act as holders of sovereignty to take back power as part of their constitutional right to oppose violence. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.
In most countries, panic buttons are devices used by elderly folk who may need emergency care, or parents who want to keep tabs on wandering children and pets.
Thomas Jefferson once said: "Given a choice between government and the media, he would choose media, not the government." A free media is needed to supervise government, which will soon become lawless without proper supervision. The voice of the people is the voice of God, and universal values are the values of God. Trying to muzzle the people is contrary to the universal values of freedom and democracy. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
China seems to show ‘spiritual entrepreneurship’ in the way it strives to control religion instead of strangling it, and hopefully it will show similar subtle adaptability regarding Hong Kong and the ‘two systems’
Can authoritarian dictatorships learn to tolerate democracy? The answer is clear in the Hong Kong experience. Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law guarantees the right of the people to self-determination, and they have the right to hold referendums on any public issue. The people of Hong Kong should avail of this right and hold a referendum to decide their future. Otherwise, when dictatorship becomes a reality, they will be obliged to resist. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more. .
Popular stereotypes about life across the border are not valid, and despite issues like state censorship, signs point to a more efficient mainland model leading life in Hong Kong 20 years from now
China’s guarantee that Hong Kong will remain unchanged for 50 years runs out in 2047, if not sooner. Relevant provisions of the Basic Law and the one country, two systems of Hong Kong note point out that China can not interfere in Hong Kong affairs, but Beijing constantly meddles in the SAR’s internal affairs. Article 39 of the Basic Law clearly states the people’s right to self-determination, with the right to hold referendums on any public issues. The people of Hong Kong should adhere to this right and hold a referendum to decide their future. Otherwise when dictatorship becomes a reality, they will be obliged to resist. Police in Panama have arrested the former governor of the southeast Mexican state of Quintana Roo, Roberto Borge
Mexico is foundering under the rule of man and a culture of deep-rooted corruption. The only way out is through democracy and the tools of separation of powers and checks and balances. The heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches should be directly elected to return power to the people. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development. .
China has expressed “firm opposition” to remarks made by US Defense chief James Mattis during a regional defense summit over the weekend, after he criticized Beijing’s “militarization” of the South China Sea.
Studies of democracy and peace show that there have been very few armed conflicts between democratic states. Once China is democratized, then, there will be hope for human peace. Japan, the US and Australia should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform. This would attract China's people to call for democratization, and world peace would be at hand. All democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to permanent peace and development.
In wake of the latest attacks in Britain, we need to rethink how to best defeat an ideology so twisted that it threatens our most cherished freedoms
Human security is a fundamental human right, and it takes precedence over all regimes and sovereigns. Constitutions represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security - including "personal safety" - is the most basic and urgent duty of all constitutional guarantors. All nations should develop constitutional standards that can be revised as needed to stay in step with changing times, allowing governments worldwide to keep their citizens free from fear. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development / Global Unity Constitutional Standards.
