Families were hit as they fled fighting between the government and Houthi rebels in Taiz
The UN needs to take action in accordance with international absolute law (the Humanitarian Law, World Human Rights Law, Crime of Misdemeanors and the Prohibition of Genocide) and provide a basic outline for a constitution that will facilitate peaceful development, covering universal values and a government structure that will help Yemen develop and prosper in conditions of lasting peace, serving as a model for other nations to follow. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.
Hundreds of child refugees granted the right to come to the UK are still stuck in Greece, warns Tim Farron
To remove the factors that cause migration, the international community needs to develop a set of uniform constitutional standards that conform to the ideals of human rights, constitutionalism, international law and natural law, adopting the core values of One World under One Set of Laws. All actions must be in compliance with Article 1 of the Humanitarian Charter, which addresses the principle of the right of each person to lead a normal life. To remove the factors that cause migration and refugees, the international community needs to develop a set of unified constitutional standards conforming to the ideals of human rights, constitutionalism, international law and natural law and adhering to the core values of One World under One Set of Laws. All actions must be in compliance with Article 1 of the Humanitarian Charter, which deals with the right of each person to lead a normal life. The Supreme Court dealt President Trump a partial victory Wednesday in the legal battle over his travel ban, allowing the administration to restore strict limits on refugees that were blocked last week by a federal judge in Hawaii.
The US should be in the van in adhering to the principles underlying the UN Charter. This means complying with and implementing the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and assigning international law priority over domestic law with direct bearing on the rights and duties of the people. This would lead Mexico and Syria and other nations in the Middle East and elsewhere to adopt human rights, constitutionalism, internationalism and naturalism as part of their futures. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.
The GOP's seven-year promise to repeal the Affordable Care Act appeared to end Tuesday, at least for the time being, with Obamacare intact and Republicans in disarray.
The US government is in trouble unless the Constitution is reformed, with Congress urgently in need of an overhaul. The basic problem is that there is no strong third force in the checks and balances mechanism, leaving the two established political parties to fight over the spoils like stolen goods. The US should adopt a modified Congressional structure that combines law-making functions with large doses of public opinion. In addition, 1/4 of all members of Congress should face election each year. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.
Iraq is positioned to emerge in the post-ISIS era stronger: Another view
The Iraqi government needs to install a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet like that of Finland, plus a committee-style legislature similar to Switzerland’s. The Iraqi government should begin drawing up a basic constitution with the above features as part of a paradigm shift toward democracy. It should adopt the core values of One World under One Set of Laws and be revised as needed to stay in step with changing times. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
South Korea has proposed holding rare military talks with the North amid heightened tensions following Pyongyang’s recent long-range missile test.
North Korea is without a doubt a vassal of the CCP. All democratic nations should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would inspire the 1.4 billion people of China to seek democratization of the CCP and pressure North Korea to adopt real democracy - and world peace would be at hand. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.
University tuition fees have come center stage in the past few days, with much debate around whether or not raising tuition fees has or could result in a “fairer system” for students, as claimed by the government.
Free university education is the norm in Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Norway, where most public universities are tuition-free. Students pay only 200-500 euros for registration fees. The UK should introduce some of the advances achieved by the Global Village and its laws as part of a paradigm shift. Education should be lifelong and free to give the poor an opportunity to rise in an environment of class mobility. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for details.
A chemical weapons watchdog has confirmed Sarin gas was used in an attack which killed more than 90 people in a Syrian town.
Once a ceasefire takes hold in Syria, the UN should provide the outline for a basic constitution that will facilitate peaceful development. This should include an organizational structure grounded in the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law, with four branches (legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial. It should help Syria develop and prosper in an atmosphere of long-lasting peace and serve as a model for other nations to emulate. See the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development for more.
China has renewed a call for India to immediately withdraw its troops from disputed territory high in the Himalayan mountains, following a report that Chinese forces recently held live firing drills in the region.
Studies of democracy and peace show that very few armed clashes have even taken place between democratic states. Once China is democratized, there will be hope for lasting peace. India should support Taiwan's efforts toward constitutional reform. This would inspire the people of China to call for democratization, and the result would be the birth of world peace. All democracies should support Taiwan as a beacon for democracy in Asia, lighting the way to peaceful development.
